Has anyone gotten in with lower than 1400 and what were your other credentials/hooks? I know Harvard likes taking risks with applicants with lower tests scores and high grades and awesome hooks/ECs but I need to see proof HERE!

I know Saxfreq and CaCutie were quite unique in the admissions process eliminating their need for the stereotypical "perfect score" applicant. Do you believe Harvard is really looking for cultural, spiritual, and loving people? I am gracefully emphasizing this to the max and I do believe that my teachers highlighting me as a HUGE leader and even more as a HUGE HISPANIC leader giving voice to my rather subdued culture here in the south:(. Also, as it turns out I will be the first hispanic Valedictorian in my schools history and the first Valedictorian in my schools history to take over 12 AP classes. For you who are disgusted with AA here me out...I am not here to simply "sit back and let AA work for me"! I, throughout High school have worked my all to embrace and empower my culture and create a mutual understanding of the Latino culture whether it be by being the first hispanic valedictorian or my work with the Public as public relations for National Hispanic Honor society. My teachers regard me as such a strong leader for the hispanic community and at my school and I hope Harvard will see me as a great addition to its freshmen class and its Fuerza Latina organization which is rather popular at the school. I hope they do not see me as just another person trying to manipulate AA but rather as a very cultural and spiritual person. I can only hope that while they are reading at 15 minutes an application they can truly discern into my Heart!

Not to nitpick or anything, but the terms you use are a bit on the broad side ;). "Cultural, spiritual, and loving," I would hope that those words describe the majority of Harvard applicants.

Oh yeah ..of course being smart is more important. My academic record is awesome but I want to MAX OUT on my personal record. That is usually the defining piece.

Yeah ...they were broad ..purposely because I do not want to reveal the way I am cultural and spiritual because people can be highly critical. Sure EVERYBODY can be cultural and spiritual but to what extent and depth....how much do they really care....how passionate...the way my church is and my culture within that church is VERY unique and I am very confident that not many applicants can offer harvard that "uniqueness" ...not matter how "perfect" they may be.

apfreak, just chill with the hispanic thing. seriously.

btw, if you don't read time magazines, it's actually a fact that most hispanics in the US would like to be addressed in English.

you know the la mayor? the dude was talkin to the bunches of hispanics in english. im sure there was some spanish thrown in, but other than that... that's about it.

I NEVER said anything about TALKING spanish...just embracing the culture. Anyways all this will be reflected in my teachers letter of rec so They'd have to tell HER to chill..and if they do that would be a good thing because that would mean she is enthusiastic about me...which she is:)!

Oh course I can speak/understand spanish...not the best but ever since when is THAT the preresquisite for having a voice in the MULTI-cultural community? I hope you get it now. Amnesia is right...mostly in English.

All I know is that I discussed this same thing to an admissions officer that handles my area and all of the US and she lOVED it. That's all that matter...they like this embracement and empowerment stuff..who woldn't since they consider Harvard students the future leaders of the world. I really impressed her with all my research on the cultural apsects of Harvard...there were lots! As far as the spiritual church aspects of me I'd rather not say because with my church ..they really get into worship and it would be too much to discuss...but someone in CC will find a way to discredit this so why bother :(

A kid ranked 6th in my high school, got into Harvard with a high 1300, and was a caucasian male. However, my school is the second largest school in mass. and he applied as a classics major. (showed passion for classics or something)

It's surprising to me that a would-be classics major would do anything but excellently on the verbal part of the SAT, so he must have bombed his math part, right?

In my application they will how I LIVE by their liberal education philosophy. In this I mean that I have taken a broad scope of AP classes ranging from Art History to Computer Science to the typical AP Biology or AP English. I will have a counselor mention how the numhber of classes that can be taken a day at my school (4) , will parallel Harvard's 4 class system. I think they will take interest to this!
