Harvard SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

In front of me is enough furniture to furnish a standard sized mansion! True or lie?

Hey guys – new here. Just have a quick question. When does Harvard begin with the actual consideration of SCEA candidates, and when would they possibly be done deciding by? Anyone know?

@snackpack02 …False?

@aharper98 My interviewer said that adcoms began looking at applications around November 9 or November 11, and I’d imagine that they’re spending the next week and a half in committees to deal with the tougher decisions to make (which may include some of us!). I read somewhere that they try to do a quick review of who was admitted at the very end to make sure they’ve made the right decision, so that’ll probably take place not this week, but next week. My guess is that everything really does run up to the wire, and decisions are being finalized even the day before we receive information, but I can’t be too sure.

Does anyone have any idea how that must work for the financial aid office? Because the admissions department needs to give a list of admitted applicants to the financial aid office so they can get aid packages ready, so I wonder how soon they’ll give the list to them and how quickly the FA office can get that stuff together.

@aharper98 no one can tell you an exact answer, but this article sums up the process well: http://www.bostonmagazine.com/2006/05/keys-to-the-kingdom/

@RandomRhino it’s actually true hahaha I work in a furniture store!

@snackpack02 Shoot, didn’t account for that!

In front of me is a Taylor Swift 2015 calendar. Truth or lie?

If you think about it, in a month we will be all done with college apps, EA or RD! That’s exciting! And bittersweet :frowning:

@cheerleader16 what year did you do it? I did SSP in 2014

@giraffeinatree This summer! What dorm did you stay in?

@RandomRhino Truth!

Oh God… if you think about it, most of our fates might have been already decided… :confused:

@cheerleader16 straus! hbu?

@RandomRhino Thanks! The reason I ask is that part of my supplement was a short youtube clip. On youtube you can look at demographics and see who all has looked at the video and from what state and source etc. There is no Mass. on there. I know that sounds creepy/crazy but hey, I thought I’d check.

@Stephiey Yeah I agree, by this time, I heard that 80% of applicants already have their decisions (most rejections and deferrals)

What is your favorite color and why?

@tuty143 What’s the bitter part? I think it sounds very sweet that I won’t have to spend my time working on them anymore hahaha.

@Stephiey False, actually! It’s a Beyoncé calendar :stuck_out_tongue:

And ugh yes, That’s so scary to think my fate may already be decided. But to be completely honest I wish the admissions committee would just call me know and tell me if they’ve decided because the agony is ugh

@RandomRhino the bittersweet part is that right at this moment I have literally all my options open. You know? No place has rejected me, Harvard is still plausible because I haven’t received my decision, and I’ve done all the hard part of high school. The beginning of my life is right ahead of me and I’ll never be in this position again.

@giraffeinatree Stoughton! Since you were a junior, did you have the 11 PM curfew?

@expertiger Blue! Just because I, uh, really like the color. It’s peaceful.

@tuty143 Oh I completely understand. Honestly though I think that the hardest part for me will be the fact that I’ll likely still be waiting to hear back from colleges and will be very uncertain about where my future is going (unless Harvard adcoms want to make my life a whole lot easier in less than 2 weeks :wink: ). I don’t like uncertainty, so I’m a much bigger fan of thinking about where I’ll be next August—planning how I want to decorate my dorm, getting in touch with future roommate(s), thinking about the kinds of classes I want to take, fantasizing where my perfect study location will be on campus, and researching the best places where I can keep up with the blog I started right before freshman year of high school.

@RandomRhino I know exactly what you mean I feel that too! But this limbo is nice for the time being. But in a week ill be dying to know.

@RandomRhino same here! I feel like I’m just wasting time wondering and worrying…
