Harvard SSP Summer 2011

lol im pretty sure the lectures are one way, not discussions
but like i said i havent been to ssp so idk

and qwerty lol thats not that long at all

I’m in the same boat as Haletonford-
I’m applying, and questions 4-6 are supposed to be only a “few sentences or a paragraph” in length.
But I don’t want to neglect and not spend time on them, since they really are the only things about my application I can approve right now.

Some of the writing classes were discussion based. It was a small class size, like around 12, and almost all of the classes were talking with the teacher and other students. I really liked this because the teacher really gets to know you and you learn a lot. You also get a one on one teacher conference for every paper. This was pretty different from my biochemistry class which was a huge lecture hall (70 people?). However the teacher was quick to respond to emails, always had office hours, was great at answering questions, and you could always talk to him at break or after class. You could also contact your lab TA if you had questions as well.

Don’t stress too much on the application. aimforthesky has the right idea- if you can pay, you can go.

IM REALLY EXCITED FOR THIS. is anybody else? this is all i have been thinking about since i got accepted nearly a month ago. lol!!!

Neuobio

youre in senior year?! ohmigoshh

but im actually so freaking excited. i bet im going to be dissapointed once i get there

Congrats to everyone else who got accepted!
I hope to see you there!

Hey guys!
Are any of you taking Biomedical Ethics or The Essay?
:)

To those people who’ve already been accepted, what are your stats? I’m applying soon and I feel pretty qualified but I’m not sure what their criteria are.

its not hard to get in, dont worry
my stats

 • sophomore
 • 3.3/3.4 gpa this year. 3.1/3.2 last year but i also go to a highly excelled private school.
 • prior camp experience with business (i am registered in topics in economics) - i went to a 3 week course last summer in introductory business

idk what else?

Anybody know if the the dorms have wifi?

It’s not hard to get it in.

 • 3.8 GPA
 • recommendation letter from a Harvard Grad
 • recommendation letter from my principal

My advice: Apply if you want to attend.

Qwerty23: I hope so! I was wondering the same thing last week haha

Sleeps-
thats great stats

public or private school?

aimforthesky- that’s a good question. Lol
My school is officially public but we carry the curriculum of a private school. We are ranked 12th nationally in academics. Haha it’s confusing.

I got accepted today (yay!). It was very surprising because I only completed my application yesterday. How long did your acceptances take?

And how many places are available? if only a few hundred places are avalible, I wonder how they can afford to have such a high acceptance rate.

My application stuff:

6 A*'s, 3 A’s and a B for GCSE results

33/42 IB current estimated performance with A in TOK

Very favorable teacher and counselor reports, teacher wrote a recommendation even though I didn’t ask for one :)

I come from a semi-private non-selective (but very good) international school in Hong Kong (partially subsidized by the government, but owned by a private company).

I almost freaked when I found out acceptances started in Jan two months ago. I figured the standards would be raised as places run out but luckily I got accepted so quick!

I also got in, and applied without many problems (it took forever for my application to be “complete” because my teacher forgot to do the recommendation). I’m a sophomore in a magnet school/public school program. I know people that have done the program and loved it, even if it’s not that selective.

Anyway, I’m thinking about taking the “What Darwin Didn’t Know” biology class and Macro.

I’m a junior and i have taken precalc this year and ap calc ab next year. I really want to take calc I over the summer. How hard would it be for someone who has never done calc before?

Juniors012: That is exactly what I plan on doing this summer! I talked with my Pre-Cal teacher recently about the rigor of taking the Calculus, and he also gave me practice problems. It isn’t that difficult. We should be fine ;)

Sleeps: Yay! I am really excited! Have you applied yet?

Yup! I’m in. Have you?

wow congrats to everybody in!!!
Principles of ECONOMICS! YEAH!
