Harvard SSP! Who got in!?

Hey my name is Mike, and I got accepted to the Harvard summer program! I made this post to gather all the people that have been (or will be) accepted so we can communicate and get to know each other before we get there (lol I dont want to walk that sunny saturday morning just starring at strangers). List your name, what you look like (to know who you are when your there), and the courses your planning to take. Msn me at Lynxzed@hotmail.com

Michael (White/Hispanic)

5'11 light brown eyes, Dark brown/black hair

Principles of Economics (8-unit)
(I might reconsider, because I have to do everything possible to be an undergrad at Harvard this next fall : )

Anyone interested in Soccer or Volleyball? I wanna face some competition!

Harvard SSP is w waste a money. I can go to my local CC and taking like 6 courses with they money u guys spend on this stupid program. Do something to make u stand out

Lol, Harvard SSP is the place to be this summer, like 20 newbs from my school applied to it and other such programs

I went last year and it is worth every penny, trust me. The people are amazing and its alot of fun. Don't expect to get a leg up in admissions from it but as soon as you get there you will see how great it really is.

the experience is phenomenal. i learned many valuable lessons @ SSP last summer. And... you get 8 credits :) . I made wonderful friends and learned many things about myself and college that you cant really get from a community college summer course. I now know what to expect when I enter college this fall and I know how to budget my time and organize my activities in a much more efficient manner -- You wouldnt get that from a local CC. Plus, when you apply to OTHER colleges they tend to think of you highly if you have those credits from such a respected institution... as opposed to CUNY Harlem (doesnt exist) credits. Think of that. Definitely worth every penny. I miss SSP o4. sigh.

I would have gone last year, but it was too expensive, but I had gov school instead :)

do they ever give fin. aid for those?

How difficult are art history and literature classes there? Harder than APs? Or much harder?

fiesta_pagana87 - which dorm where you in???

I went to SSP - and it was AWESOME. The Harvard name stood out on my resume, because I did well. It was worth every penny, and my 8 weeks. of summer vacation.

I took American Foreign Policy, and Writing and Literatue. They both were excellent classes. Both had a lot of reading (as expected), but going back to high school was hard only becuase I loved how everything was done in college, let alone Harvard.

I was in Pennypacker, which was outside of the Yard. It was great, a suite for4 people, and a bathroom to each suite. It had its advantages (big rooms, own bathrooms) and its disadvantages (further away from the main buildings for classrooms).

Best of luck - and have a great time. The only thing you will hate is the food at Annenburg... :-p

the unfortunate thing is for a majority of the courses most schools (including harvard) won't recognize the credits and won't allow you to bypass undergrad classes

i was in Straus.

from what i hear, you can use the credits for electives, which is definitely good enough for me :)

i went last summer too and it was the best summer i ever had. it was such an awesome experience. i'm surprised that there isn't a really long harvard ssp thread on cc this year because there was one last year. and if you are a sophomore this year and are concerned about the "restrictions" that you might have this summer of if u go to ssp.. don't be worried because i went as a rising junior, and i still had a blast

congrats to those who got in!!!

elysse311 - I was in pennypacker too. which floor did you live on????

stanmaster and elysse, I was in Pennypacker 25...where were you guys?

I was in Pennypacker 38. the noisy room that got all the complaints lol

I went two years ago (I was an incoming Junior then -- so I'm waiting for my college decisions right now) ...

it was a lot of fun meeting new people and all, and the campus was great.. but i felt that it wasn't worth the money.. i mean, 8000 dollars to take two summer classes? i guess the harvard label was what they were selling.. but anyways, it was definitely a very fun experience, just very pricey..

pennypacker 43... navy_blue, were you a corner room?

i was the reason we got the dorm wide e-mail that didn't allow us to use the balconies. we put patio furnature on ours, it was more a balcony than a fire escape! haha

Guys, is the dorm at Harvard looks good?
What about the professors there?
I might get my result back next week, my careless counselor forgot to send recommendation letter and transcript to admission office, that's why it seems like I am too late to apply. I heard someone had chose the classes alredy.

It was worth the expense. Like many students have said it was just phenomenally fun. I know some kids, including myself, have had trouble adjusting to high school after an amazing summer. I was in Straus and it was a really fun time.
