hey! I was in canaday g, right across from you xmaspoop

elysse- yup angie was my roomie...she's the best! my name's jen..i shared the room with frances.

Jen! I know exactly who you are! I lived two rooms above you...

Do you ever hear from frances?

Got accepted, yay! Only problem is, my school starts august 8th this year, so I'll either miss the first few days of actual school or try for the exam in absentia thing or both.

Planning on taking Comparitive Functional Anatomy of Vertebrates and Advanced Graphic Design Principles.

Anyone take these or are taking these?

I'm thinking of BIOL S-1ab (the 8 unit intro bio course...) anyone else?

the schedule's the only thing that's making me have second thoughts, M-F 10-12 + labs T,Th or W,F 1-4

i had a friend who took this. it was a LOT of work. it very indepth.

Accepted. I just wish I had the money to go... They only give financial aid on tuition, no room and board. :(

Oh well, there's always every other summer program.

Elysse- Nahh. I IMed her before, and Angie did too, but she never responded. She didn't seem like the type that would keep in touch anyways.

Wew, just got in. Probably taking Intro to Bio. :) I'm trying to download the syllabus, but it's crashing my computer. =/

Tymps, I did SSP last summer and took Bio S-1ab. It's easier than the chem course, but otherwise is one of the more work-intensive SSP courses. If you have any questions about the course or SSP in general feel free to PM me.

Okay, so I have 2 hours of class a day? What do people do with all that spare time? D: lol

P.S. I'm tempted to take Organic, but I'm resisting. >.<

The amount of class time isn't bad... it pretty much ends up being the same as everyone else, except for the whole class on Fridays thing. Even after you factor in labs it's still not that bad. The amount of work out of class required to achieve an A though is fairly significant compared to many of the other courses. A good 4-5 people in my entryway were taking Philosophy... that's an example of an easy A.

Overall, last summer was the best time of my life. I really did enjoy the bio course, but I'm going to major in bio and want to become a doctor, so there's going to be lots of bio in my future. I kind of wish I had taken something else not available in high school and then taken AP Bio this year. I am by no means a slacker, but easier courses = better chance of A+ from Harvard = looks good for admissions at other schools.

If you do take intro bio don't be depressed after the first test, there's a pretty nasty curve.

Hey,

Congrats! I went last year (SSP '05), and, I will agree, it was the best summer of my life, hands down. I took American Foreign Policy and Intro to Macro, and it was great. I read some of the posts from people last year, saying that it didn't get you a leg up on admissions - I don't know how much of that is true, all I know is that I landed a sweet Capitol Hill internship the next fall solely because I had Harvard credits. Hope this gets you even more excited about SSP. - and Annenberg food ain't all that bad

I went last year too. Annenberg Food was the worst part of that wonderful summer. I had half of my meals at au bon pain, and bought stuff from Trader Joe's.

my normal routine was to go to annenberg for dinner close to when it opened, and "annenberg whore." annenberg whoring is when the people you came with are not the people you leave with. depending what the menu was, how much i actually ate varied... but the group of 4 of us from our entryway who were basically together 24/7 went to pinocchio's pizza or charlie's somewhere around midnight most nights.

that being said... annenberg food is really good for a college... the selection is great.

then there was the time we waited too long and ended up in 7/11 being lectured on life by the people who were just kicked out of bars.

I'm not sure if I will be able attend this summer due to the large price tag. Can I apply anyway and let the university know that I cant make it if that ends up being the case? (assuming i get accepted). How easy would it be to decline admission if I need to? One more thing, is merit aid offered to ssp students; and if so is it based off SAT, gpa, or both? I'd appreciate any help, thanks.

They do offer financial aid but its rather limited, and I think its only for need-based students. Also, just like regular college, you can certainly apply, see what the financial aid situation is, and decide to decline admission if you don't feel like going.

Hey I'm attending this summer! I plan on taking American Foreign Policy and Intro to International Relations... is anyone else interested in those-- orrrr can anyone give advise on those classes?? I'm super excited!

Also, to those who have already attended- how are the councelors? Are they really strict and annoying?? h

Hey,

congrats! you should be really excited. it undoubtebly was the best summer of my life. I took American Foreign Policy, actually. GREAT CLASS. Professor Rezvani, and Ben Bolger, the TA, are fantastic (I assume they'll be doing this again since they also did it in 2004). There's a lot of reading in the class, but its worth it, and the grading is really fair. You can pm me if you want to know more specifics. Again, congrats

Thanks! So you think the class is managable if I keep up with the work? I plan on studying this "stuff" in college so it wouldn't look too good if I failed the course haha
