harvard, stanford jr transfer?

hey guys,

i'm currently contemplating transferring to harvard or stanford and wanted to know if you guys thought it was worth the shot/application fee to make the attempt. i'm currently a sophomore at a top 15 university.

Stats:

SAT I 800cr 770m 800w (2370)

SAT IIs: 800 IIC 790 french 790 Lit 780 Chinese 740 Chem 730 Bio 720 Physics

APs: 5s on: French Lit, French Lang, Stats, Eng Lit; 4 on Calc AB, US Hist, Bio, Physics B

HS GPA, Weighted and Unweighted: 3.6 unweighted (this will hurt me...), school doesn't weight gpa

School Profile: very competitive top public, sent 6 people to harvard my graduating year

College GPA: 3.97 in biology

College rank: dont know exactly, will check once I get back to school, presumably at least top 10%

Subjective:

HS ECs listed on app: competitive piano, zither, a lot of volunteering and internships

College ECs: research (1 pub coming up), hospital volunteering, Red Cross exec board, orgo tutor, volunteer tutor for underpriviliged children, volunteer trip to China, AKPsi business frat

Job/Work Experience: work for Academic Advising as a tutor

Teacher Recs: probably average, to be honest. I could probably get a better one, but from a TA. or, would it be ok for me to get a letter of rec from my research prof?

Counselor Rec: probably a form

Location/Person:

College? East coast, top 15

State or Country: CA resident

Ethnicity: asian

Income Bracket: high

Gender: female

Hooks: no idea

Strengths/Weaknesses: weaknesses are obviously my HS record... strengths, no idea

Why you think you were accepted/wait listed/denied: rejected in HS, presumably due to my ***ty GPA and *disciplinary record... hoping my college record has redeemed me, but is it enough?

Also, this is probably a really redundant question, but- I know that the common app needs to be submitted by feb 15, but what about transcripts/letters of rec? Do they also need to be in by feb 15? If not, then when?

I don't see why not. Just apply.

To my knowledge, everything needs to be in by Feb 15 if they say that's the deadline. I'm 100% sure that's the case for Harvard.

Stanford took less than 2% of transfer applicants last year vrs accepting approx. 10% of freshman applicants. Realistically, I think your HS GPA will reduce your chance of acceptance to nil, but try if you like. Just know that your chances are very, very, low.
If you already applied to S or H last year then I suggest you don't bother trying again.

That's silly. I know people who got into Harvard transfer even though they didn't get in freshman year. I also know people who applied for transfer freshman year, didn't get in, tried again and did.

Your HS GPA should matter less since you're transferring as a jr. It seems like you're in the ballpark numbers wise as you have an excellent GPA from a top school. The rest will depend on your instructor recs and essays. The transfer rates are of course tiny for both of these schools, so beyond being a viable candidate, no one can predict your chances. My assumption is that the deadline is for the entire application, still a whole month away. Good luck.

dude, dude, dude--the common app deadline is march 15. you've got a lot more time.

obstacle, H's deadline is Feb 15.

yeah, i didn't apply anywhere last year bc i knew my hs gpa would kill me. just wondering if i have a realistic chance as a jr transfer..

ugh- so for harvard recs and transcripts have to be in by feb 15 as well?

it matters a lot which college you're applying from, but yeah that HS rank will kill you. It's probably a little too late for Harvard; maybe try some other Ivies?

how much do they take HS record into consideration as a jr transfer?

.
