SMHVandy,
I think a great thing going for you is that you've already been accepted. You'll be able to check that box on the application and I think it will help. Essentially, it's means they've already decided favorably for you and as long as the situation has not changed (which seems to be the case), I think you'll have a good shot. Of course, it would probably be a good idea to apply to other good schools in case it doesn't pan out. With transfer admissions, you just never know. Sometimes it can depends on the school's needs so even a perfect academic candidate could be turned away in favor of some other desired quality (which of course we have no way of knowing what that might be). Are you applying anywhere other than Harvard or Yale? By the way, with Yale, as you probably know, only about 3% are admitted from the transfer pool.

Hey. Thanks for the post. I know that--even with a previous acceptance--my chances are still about that of a crap shoot for Harvard and Yale. I may apply to Stanford, UPenn, and Dartmouth in addition to Yale and Harvard. Harvard, though, is my dream school. I wish I had gone two years ago. I'll explain why I didn't in my application and hope for the best. I applied to Stanford, Yale, and Dartmouth two years ago as well, and was accepted to all three. I have never applied to UPenn before, so we'll see there. I am just going to try my best on all these apps. Thanks again for your post. I really appreciate everyone who has put a post up.

Hey Vandy, I have to admit that you are scaring me a little!
you are a history major like me, with somewhat better test numbers, a slightly better college gpa, and a better high school gpa. And I am applying to (most likely): yale, stanford, harvard, dartmouth, brown! After they accept you, I don't know where I fit in!!!

Well, Rockofeller, I don't think you'll have to worry about me anymore. I have decided not to try to transfer from Vanderbilt to Harvard or anywhere else. My parents simply aren't in favor of it anymore. I'll be happy at Vandy anyway. Even if I were going to attempt to transfer, however, I would still think you would have a good shot. There are 50-75 spots open at Harvard, and you have good stats. Best of luck with your transfer plans, and have a good semester.

SMH, why did u all of sudden just put an end to transfering?

Vandy, as much as I think you are top competition for me, I do hope that you end up doing what is best for you, be that transferring or staying where you are.

rockofeller, where u at now, emory or vandy, i forget?

Vandy, you're so close to performing your dream vis a vis studying in Harvard. I do not know your family or the conditions that led to their decision, however let me remind you that although we arguably all love our parents it should not be taken as a fact that their love is our future or current happiness per se.
My parents do love me, but they were against me studying in the UK. I took a flight and went to my interviews. When the understood to which school I would go, they felt so satisfied that my "revolution" had such a positive effect. I think that your environment will appreciate it as well.

BUT, if the consideration is money... then I'm really sorry, coz the American dream doesn't always work. (I say that from a really financially disadvantaged position - simply, if i don't get almost full fee financial aid I won't go to study at neither Harvard nor Yale...)
C' est la vie (americaine/capitaliste...) sad but true

I heard that most ppl at Princeton pay practically nothing to attend since the financial aid is amazing and even the rich ones pay very little to attend.

unfortunately though princeton does not accept transfer students... and i'm not north american, which plays some role some times
it would probably work if you attend a top (fees) school and then immediately go to employment. you can pay for your fee loans, relatively soon.

Then you should not apply. If I am not mistaken, financial aid is poor for international applicants.

I would double-check on this to be certain, however.

Officially, both Harvard and Yale state that international applicants will be treated on the same way as US and Canadian finacial aid applicants.
It seems, from other students' accounts, that the admissions decision is not exactly "need-blind".
I have no official data for that though so I can't and I won't be absolute on this.

um, that is true. If you are looking for financial aid, you likely wont find it as a transfer, at least in signifcant amounts. I know that Brown is NOT NEED BLIND for transfers, and if you need financial aid, that will significantly hurt your chances. And if you need it and you dont put it down that you need it, guess what, you are fooling no one, b/c you won't be able to attend in the end.

i go to emory

how do you know that Brown is definetly NOT NEED BLIND? Not that I think you're wrong, I'm just curious as to how you know this.

bbball is actually right, even their website at some point outspokenly states that it isn't need blind for international applicants.

They are need-aware for every transfer applicant.

therefore, if ur a transfer applicant and ur in need of financial aid, Brown may not be in ur future

Stamatis, Harvard is need-blind for internationals. I quote from the website:
"Applying for financial aid does not jeopardize a student's chance for admission... Harvard meets the full need of every student, including international students, for all four years."

Don't bother with Brown, however, unless you really have your heart set on it.

I really want to study at Harvard or Yale (their political science and philosophy departments seem excellent). However, I wondered if there are any other back up choices (incl. other Ivies).
Unlike some people I am not at all disappointed with my current uni in the UK (UCL). London is an amazing city that I'll definitely miss if I cross the Atlantic. Harvard and Yale sound like amazing unis, so let's cross fingers...and study for the SAT!
