hey guys. i go to nyu...tisch school of the arts. i think i might end up trying to transfer to harvard, i was an ED candidate for NYU so i never had the chance to find out if i would have gotten in undergraduate to harvard. my resumes alright...i might have a problem though because the classes i take here are so specific to my major that i'd be stuck in school for 6 years lol.

what're the odds that I'll be accepted as a transfer from MIT? And no, i'm not one of those people so obsessed with harvard that I would throw away MIT to go there. I simply need a bailout from this place. Scores are near perfect...not too much extracurricular unfortunately.

I think that at a place like Harvard, they have their fare share of people with great scores - that only gets your foot in the door. If you have a top GPA at MIT, that is a great factor in your favor, but Harvard and other top schools really want transfer students who contribute both in the classroom and on campus.

MIT has historically been one of the top transfer feeders to Harvard. By far the most important factor is your college GPA, but they will definitely care about activities and personal qualities as well.

thanks for the information. I really need to get out of here as soon as possible.

ahahha, what is wrong with MIT, actually 3 girls in one year are there, not that smart, i mean, one of them was almost going to get a C in ap calculus, and she got in there b/c she did some research.

Hey SMHVandy

Thanks for the post... a friend of mine is also applying from the same school as me, and so we've started to look into this past the website info and contact the admissions and financial aid offices. We haven't yet taken the SATs and so I'm wondering, what are the general ranges for transfer applicants? Online, I've found several varying ranges... :P

Definitely hope we're both at Harvard next year. Best of luck!

wow its been awhile... i should have read the earlier posts instead of skimming over them. i guess thats what i get after lacking so much sleep. SMHVandy, I think you are obviously a very intelligent person so whatever decision you've made is probably best for you. Best of luck in your future endeavours.

to rockofeller and all:
Is campus involvement really that big of a deal? I think that yale doesn't even have space provided for EC on the transfer application. Isn't there a point when you are supposed to stop with childish EC and just do some research or some math competitions or something? Maybe volunteer in a hospital if you are a premed.
I have two college EC's: Putnam competition (my goal is to be in top 5 by senior year), and some biochem research, but just because I was confused and I though I wanted to be a pre-med.
How much is this going to hurt me with a 4.00 in HS and 4.00 in college?
I can't really take calc, o chem, physics, and bio in one semester and do campus involvement :(

In regards to Ivy Legues, I roll with the Toronto private school crowd and some of my friends are going to Harvard, Yale, Brown, Cornell, Cambridge, Oxford, Stanford and Princeton and they were all very qualified, BUT many of them only got into one school or the other.
Basically what we have learned is that after a certain point it is a crap shoot... there are plenty of people applying with perfect SAT scores, amazing extra curricular scores and 4.0 averages... they're just looking for one specific thing or the other and they might pull you out of the pile or they might not.

i just thought i'd throw that out there from experience.
