You mean UMRP. Asians are not considered an underrepresented minority by any means for admissions at highly selective colleges. However, Asians are still a minority in the United States, which means places like Harvard will still recruit Asians.

MFB, I'm not sure HOW I got recruited. I don't think there's a way to get them to notice you; they just randomly called my house during the summer. I suspect it was based on PSAT/SAT scores, though.

I also got a phone call from UMRP but had never signed up for anything at harvard or their website (though I did visit and took their tour last spring), i guess they just look at the sat scores of those who checked "not white".

I'm hispanic. I got two calls. One from the financial aid iniative thing, and minority recruitment thing, they really don't mean anything. Their main objective is to get you to apply. I'm pretty sure they got the info from the PSAT scores.

At UMRP this summer our main objective wasn't necessarily to get you to apply; the point was to get you information and to help you decide whether Harvard may be a good fit for you.

Recruiting is largely based on PSAT scores, because that is really the only thing any college knows about you before you apply.

It's helpful in the sense that if you're getting called/e-mailed/etc., it means Harvard thinks you'd be competitive if you applied based on that information -- but as we all know, scores are only one small piece of the puzzle, so there are no guarantees by any means.
