@jxxxx8 Absolute nonsense. Its STEM programs are some of the best in the world.
@jxxxx8 I think it is a bit confusing to say a school doesn’t care about an entire field of study, especially an ivy school. I think the idea of a Liberal Arts school as you say is to explain that there are amazing programs for all fields including humanities not necessarily holding them to just a particular field of study like some schools. You must also remember that many of the Ivies are difficult to classify as only liberal arts as they do not fit the same type of schools as Swarthmore and Haverford, which are both well known liberal arts schools. This is all just my opinion though coming from a student at a STEM focused high school.
First Gen. College is a hook
First Gen CITIZEN (which was the descriptor) not so much
@Questar Good catch. I did not even notice that. You are correct - being of the first generation to attend college is a hook. Being a first generation American is not. But the person who asked is African-American, so that is a hook.
@jxxxx8 So you are sharing this from a position of expertise, or as your comment implies, as a Harvard STEM student?
I took the SAT in November. Just got my scores back.
How do I update the committee on these new scores?
@LOA1000 send them through collegeboard and hope they arrive in time
@MaybeHarvard2022
Thanks, but I disagree with the use of the word “hope.”
Harvard has stated that they accept November SAT scores for early applicants, so they WILL arrive on time, I was just asking how to send them…
Any South Asian/Indian subcontinent folks had their interview? And for others who had alumni interview, did the interviewer or the admission officer email you?
@LOA1000 Ok…go to collegeboard and click send SAT scores, and then fill out accordingly.
Hey everyone, I just got my subject test scores back from the November testing date. Will a 720 on chem hurt my chances? (Applied as a STEM major) Does anyone know if that would hurt me at MIT?
@crimsondream22 I don’t think that is much big of a deal
Agreed. Send them through the CB.
You don’t apply to a major (called a concentration at Harvard). You say what you are planning to study, if you know, but students are accepted to Harvard College - not to a department.
It will probably hurt more at MIT than at Harvard, since most MIT applicants will have submitted STEM subject tests, and most will be higher. But for both schools, Subject Tests are but one small part of the packet.
@nekanorneki @skieurope Thank you both for your replies!
Has everyone already submitted there IDOC? Mine has been messed up for some time as college board continues to inform me the site is down however I have completed and sent off FAFSA and the CSS profile for Harvard. Should I be worried or is it okay if my IDOC is late?
@Chozley Yes. If you haven’t turned it in by now, you probably won’t get a financial aid package along with your acceptance. But it won’t negatively affect your application.
Ok @jswani thank you that clears up a few things for me
I just got contacted for an interview! I am pretty surprised because I thought interviews for EA applicants had already been completed. My interviewer said that her reports are due November 29. I’m from Southern California.
@dietcig Good luck and have fun!
Oh my god people, we’ll get to read the decisions in roughly 3 weeks! 3 WEEKS!!! Like how doge would put it: Such nerves, much wow, very close.
So, now that we’re done with the applying part, what do you all do for fun? Trying to find a way to pass the time lol
