Harvard University Class of 2022 SCEA Applicants Thread

@nekanorneki
I’m afraid I do not know how late into the process interviews are still sent out, so you may still get one - I don’t have information on that. I double-checked my own interview date and it was just before Thanksgiving.

I read that @crimsondream22 is from Iran and received a Skype interview with the admissions office, not an alumni, on November 10th per Page 31 on this thread http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/1976822-harvard-university-class-of-2022-scea-applicants-thread-p31.html. From what the thread I mentioned in my previous post described about the process in Iran, this is a very good sign.

@Telluric thanks for your response. And yes, @crimsondream22 had her/his interview on Skype (my bad to think it was an alumni interview).

Anybody else still not see their interview in the Upload Materials section? I’m getting a bit anxious…

I have not seen mine @MaybeHarvard2022 and my friend who also applied has not seen hers I think they still have time to add it however.

Some of us are worried about not getting an interview and some of us are worried that our interview is taken (and not uploaded). This calms me a bit: I wouldn’t be happier even if I got an interview. :))

As a fyi, I have created a separate thread for any Canadians who applied (I’m Canadian) :wink:

are results released at 5pm EST on 12/12?

@asaltyattic presumably

I emailed my interviewer and she said that she already sent it to Harvard and they acknowledged receiving it, so I don’t think that it shows up on the Applicant Portal for all applicants.

Has anyone here started a nonprofit/some type of organization, and if so what does it do? Do you think it’ll help you in terms of admissions? Wondering how common this is among applicants.

The greater issue is that many students approach EC’s as part of the application checklist. Start a non-profit. Check. Publish a book. Check. Get 100K views on my YouTube channel. Check. Unfortunately, admissions does not work that way.

MIT actually says it really well:

http://mitadmissions.org/apply/prepare/highschool

The person who starts a non-profit will intrigue the AO not simply because s/he checked a box, but because of other factors related to it, some of which are intangible. The same, though, can be said for other EC;s.

Of course – I understand that. Similar to how applicants share their stats, I was just asking about something different. It’s about the quality, depth and impact behind the organization, not the fact that you created a website.

Just had a random question. How important do you guys think AP Scores are? I’ve done alright on my APs (5s in AP Lang and Calc AB, but 4s in Chem, APUSH).

Probably not that important considering they take self reported scores

Very minimal, if any importance

The full committee is beginning meetings on Monday according to my friend’s interviewer.

Do all applications go to committee, or is committee only for people who are on the edge of being accepted/deferred/rejected?

Well that’s anxiety-inducing.

So anyone have a non-profit? This is anxiety-inducing for me because I feel like a lot of applicants have one…

@asaltyattic To my knowledge, regional admission officers go through the apps from their region and only select the ones they deem worthy of going to the committee. From there the committee deliberates on whether to accept, reject, or defer an applicant. You need half of the committee to vote in your favor in order to be admitted (full committee is made up of faculty and AOs with around 65 people in total according to @skieurope).
