Harvard University Class of 2022 SCEA Applicants Thread

Assuming that the one and only score is in Harvard’s acceptable range, no, it won’t hurt.

@skieurope i have a small dilemma. I forgot to remove my SAT score when sending my subject test scores to H. It’s very bad compared to my ACT scores. I know now that they’ll see it, but will they only consider my highest score (ACT) when reviewing?

@MaybeHarvard2022
Yes. Don’t worry.

@skieurope does Harvard request first quarter report cards?

What is Harvard’s “acceptable range” for the SAT? Also, is the SAT score only looked at once by the regional rep when determining if you are academically qualified (i.e if your application makes it to full committee, is much weight placed on SAT scores @ that point?)

@LOA1000 they request mid-year and final but not first quarter. as for SAT scores, the average is 1470-1600. but - as with most colleges - Harvard has a holistic admissions approach, and the regional rep reads your whole application - essays, letters, transcript, etc. - before making a case for you. if your application makes it to full committee, the admissions officer might mention your scores once but, IMHO, will more likely focus on your ECs and recs.

@LOA1000 also, if you’re a little ~100 pts below the average, you do still have a chance with a good story to tell and good ECs.

While @maralyn99 is correct, some HS’s send them automatically regardless. Additionally, it is not unheard of for Harvard to contact the GC for 1st quarter grades or an informal update if 1st quarter is not yet final.

Should I add a title to my supplement essay because it’s a pdf that’s submitted?

Not necessary.

Thanks everyone! Never joined CC before a few days ago but glad to be a member of this group/community!

@LOA1000 Welcome and good luck.

Decisions are apparently supposed to come out on December 12th (Tuesday) this year based on the Crimson article about Harvard accepting fewer students.

Just submitted my application! Pretty nervous haha. Here comes the wait… Good luck to everyone! <3

What do y’all think matters most? Essays? Activity Section? Recs? Scores? Obvious the process is holistic but I’m interested in your opinions.

@LOA1000 Least important IMO is scores since they are just a threshold you have to pass to be seriously considered (for ivies its mainly 32-36 or 1470-1600). ECs are relatively important if they show a certain spike in a specific area or very deep commitment. The most important IMO are the essays and Recs because that’s where you present yourself and where others reflect on your achievements/abilities.

ARGHHH, I’m ready to submit but I just can’t!! Anxiety is killing me right now!

meeting with my guidance counselor today and then hopefully submitting tonight!! :slight_smile:

I’d agree that they are less important once you’ve hit a certain threshold (whatever that happens to be). But you have to cross that threshold to even get inited to the dance.

Note that for the unhooked applicant, the 32/1470 is still below that threshold, IMO.

@skieurope so, the thing is, i only have a 30 ACT but would being Native American be a “hook”? i also have a very interesting story both with school and with family, which i discussed in my supplemental and my common app essay. my ECs and grades are pretty good, and i know my recs are, it’s just the score.
