They’re making assumptions.Harvard has not announced the time yet.
who here has the biggest accomplishment in terms of ecs (olympics, nobel prize)
i won my 7th grade Geography Bee. ?
@Robbyb damn. hella gud
@Robbyb what do u think ur chances are
This waiting is killing me. Relatable?
i give my chances as 15% which is average for EA. Like you all i have great grades and scores (36 ACT, 800s SAT2, 4.1 gpa at top private school) and am very active in EC and sports, very strong recommendations, but nothing stellar, no legacy or other hook, above average essays. A classmate is slightly below me but a legacy.
So i will be disappointed but not shattered when the deferral comes on
how about the rest of you? let’s see how our self predictions re our chances of admission correlate with outcome Just be honest.
@Robbyb what do you think your spike is
@robbyg No clue what my chances are since I haven’t gotten an interview. The Harvard website basically says I shouldn’t worry, but the lawsuit says otherwise?
I’ve been told I have good chances (40-55%?), but ehh IDK. I’m a URM, 4.0 UW, 4.5 W, Rank #1, 1480 SAT. My top ECs include an 8 week research program (LOR from mentor who’s an Harvard alum), a NASA scholars program, founder/president of the technology student association chapter at my school, and Varsity Basketball. My essays are strong, LORs strong, and awards/honors are strong. The only thing I’m worried about is not having an interview.
My son is fairly confident but not overly. It seems like he fits the 15% as well. His essays were strong but his ECs are limited since rowing is a 6/day/wk 11 month/yr sport but we’ve been told that could actually work in his favor. Awards and leadership strong as well. I don’t think any of us will be surprised by a deferral but he will obviously be disappointed. He is in a strong private school who doesn’t rank but he would be top 3% if they did. Crossing fingers that the physics major will help him a bit as it’s not a flooded one for Harvard typically. Does anyone have thoughts on intended major (other than engineering) increasing or decreasing your chances? it is just so hard to predict at a top school where most applicants are all highly accomplished academically.
that is my weakness. i am strong academically, active in extracurricular, sports, and community service, but really have nothing distinguishing. Maybey passion for learning— especially outside the curriculum— is a spike nI started clubs and even interdisciplinary courses. However i admit others have much better spikes.
those are considered great stats for URM. i bet you get in
Hi there, I’m new to this site and was just wondering whether there is any meaning behind the timing of Harvard interviews. From my understanding, there is a subcommittee and final committee and the subcommittee makes preliminary decisions. My interview was scheduled in between the supposed two committee meeting periods.
Does anyone have any more information as to what actually gets passed to the final committee? I’m sure that there’s no way to tell what this means in terms of the decision, so I just wanted more information as to what kinds of decisions are sent to the final committee.
I’ve seen a couple posts suggesting there’s more to it than “they finally got around to interviewing”, so I figured it was worth asking. Thanks and I appreciate any answers!
My interview lasted about 2 hours
The email I received said it would be a half hour, but I was referring to the date instead of the length of the interview. Thanks though!
Hi! I was just wondering what my chances were at admission (from no chance to pretty okay considering there is no real answer). I have kinda low scores with a 32 ACT, looking to major in mechanical engineering and public policy with the ultimate goal of working in sustainable urban development. I wrote my common app on a special community service organization I am apart of, the only youth led organization of its kind in the world. I have worked with various community service organizations in the area including Harvard’s Y2Y. I have the captain of both of my sports teams, tennis and alpine ski racing. I also tutor middle schoolers and watch special needs kids as community service and work at a day care. I sing in two choirs, am a girl scout, and play three instruments for my school.I was nominated to the National Science Fair and had a two hour long interview. They asked where my parents went to school and when I said MIT they asked why I did not want to apply there and I said it was because I never wanted to solely be an engineer.
My son has similar grades and test scores. 1560 SAT, 35 ACT, 4.64 W and 4.35 UW, either #1 or #2 in class of 450. National Merit Semi Finalist, AP Scholar with Distinction, plays 2 Varsity sports (football and lacrosse) but not recruited in either one. Nomimated for National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete Award.
Worked for last 2 years as a research assistant in a university neuroscience lab. Intel ISEF Finalist last year and won a 1st place special award. He said his interview went well. He has good LORs but he’s not a legacy. I have no idea what his chances are. I read that Harvard takes approximately 15% of their students from EA, so I’m guessing that’s what his chances are. Good luck to everyone!
The number is closer to 50%

Acceptance rate EA is 15% but 50% of class comes via EA. realize EA has high percentage of athletic recruits, legacies, overall stronger applicants.
