I find it interesting that people submitted shadowing a physician on their application. My son has shadowed his father numerous times observing aortic aneurysm repairs through a thoracic approach endovascularly but we did not think to put that on his application.
He’s even held a retractor a time or 2! But seeing that it’s his dad he shadowed I don’t know that it count for much particularly since he doesn’t want to go into medicine
If you had an interview do you get a notification when the interviewer uploads their report? I had an interview but never got the notification and dont see anything in added on my portal
@skyzur32 I did not get a notification, nor do I see recent uploads in my portal. I am almost certain that one doesn’t.
I’ve seen posts about getting or not getting interviews, getting requests for 1st quarter grades, strange postings on people’s portals, etc… I’m not sure what any of it means. I submitted my application on Nov.1st and my interview was scheduled 2 days later. Probably means that there was an interviewer in my area with some time in their schedule. I didn’t get a request for my 1st quarter grades. Honestly, I didn’t really expect to. My grades are really strong so I don’t think 3 additional months of grades will sway some admissions officer to let me in. And as far as mysterious things on the application portal, I’m sure Harvard Admissions wouldn’t let me know if or when they look at my application. I think they are trying to drive me insane and it’s working!
Guys you don’t have to have anything uploaded on your portal. Most people that do are just from quarter one transcripts submitted from counselors or other stuff that they have submitted themselves which are not required unless Harvard specifically asks for them. You won’t see your interviewers update, or when Harvard looks at your applicant. Uploads do not mean acceptance/deferral/rejection. Try not to look to much into this stuff, don’t freak out, everything is ok! :)>-
Hi guys! I’ve been lurking for a while and have a nagging question - I understand that specific geographics may not be considered for internationals, but I come from an extremely rural area (nobody in my city has EVER applied for an Ivy, no English-taught curriculum, Starbucks-less within an hour’s driving range lol) where EC opportunities are practically unheard of. Despite this, I’ve won two international academic competitions, been nationally recognized in a traditional art, selected as a 30 under 30 nationwide for a full college scholarship scholar, and conducted research that was awarded the second highest honor in my country. My interview also went really well, and the interviewer told me he would recommend me on the ‘strongest possible terms’. Sadly, I’m Asian (not male tho :'D) as can be and didn’t mention my geographic circumstances anywhere in my application (I wrote my Commapp about puns rip). Do you think Harvard, or any admissions office would consider context in terms of ECs, and would my circumstances be favorable vs a school with previously enrolled US-college students?
@salamandereyes to me, it seems like you have the best circumstances and ECs out of anyone I’ve heard on in this chat and in person for any Ivy school. I am cheering for you as a fellow hopeful harvard '23!!
@salamandereyes oh, and yes they consider context. they consider what school you attend, how your school performs, what the highest gpa has been in ur school, how my APs/types of classes your school offers, etc. etc. they’ll also consider your parents and their jobs/education levels, and also consider the area you are from. That’s why they call reviewing these applications a holistic approach. they’ll put you in context of your area, as they do with every applicant.
No. They would expect you to look for opportunities, which you did. That is what is important.
Good, because that would have done you no favors. So you did things the right way. Now, wait and see. Good luck.
@skieurope you’re partly right, but I think you should’ve elaborated more (or said yes instead of no). Yes, you’re right that they expect you to look for opportunities (which he or she did) but they ALSO look at context in terms of ECs in order to do that. therefore, yes, they do look at context in terms of ECs AND expect you to look for opportunities beyond what you were given/the environment. @salamandereyes
@skieurope any predictions on when they may announce decision date?
@skieurope @nrsebayer By what means do they usually release decision day? How have they announced it in former years?
Here are the past EA decision release dates for Harvard:
Dec 12th, 2017 @7pm ET (2nd Tuesday of Dec)
Dec 13th, 2016 @5pm ET (2nd Tuesday of Dec)
Dec 10th, 2015 @5pm ET (2nd Thursday of Dec)
Dec 11th, 2014 (2nd Thursday of Dec)
Dec 13th, 2013 (2nd Friday of Dec)
Based off of that data, I would think the decision date this year would be on Dec 11th (2nd Tuesday of Dec), but you can never be sure.
the 11th is what I initially suspected because of the last two years but someone else on here earlier in the thread says it’s the 13th
@bluewhale1217 That would be amazing! But I dunno, Dec. 11th is in 7 days, we’d probably know by now.
@carey46 The CSS Profile says 13th, but it may be an estimate based on last year.
@nrsebayer Sorry I forgot you mentioned that we were all in that 10% who would pay 100% tuition for Harvard. Anyway, congrats to your son for landing a nice financial package from equally prestigious U of Chicago. It’s a college with very rigorous education according to a physician friend of mine who graduated from there.
Rumor says Stanford will announce on Dec. 7th. So Dec 11th is not that late. There are many football games to watch before that. Or essays to write in case deferred or rejected
@Dataminer thank you! It is indeed an amazing school and we prefer it over Harvard as parents due to proximity but we will see what happens. I wish you great luck too! In the meantime…football!
