Harvard University Class of 2023 SCEA Applicants

When we visited Harvard, I asked this question and was told the acceptance rate of deferred candidates is approximately the same as regular decision candidates overall.

@lilyk614 In regards to the letter from Harvard, I received one. It was back in March and it was their like recruitment pamphlet/brochure. I was reading an article about the lawsuit like a month ago and one of the things the lawsuit revealed was the process by which these are sent out, which is basically that Harvard (and most schools, tbh) purchase scores and data from College Board/ACT and they look for students in a certain range of scores. Then they send out promotional materials to those students (the big letter) to encourage them to apply. It worked- I hadn’t even thought of Harvard until I got the letter. If you get the letter then I think it’s safe to assume that Harvard generally sees your SAT/ACT score positively.

As for the interviews, I only know what’s been said in this thread: some say it’s totally random, others say that people who don’t get called in for interviews are likely not strong candidates OR they are incredibly strong candidates who the College sees as admits without additional information required.

Please, correct me if I’m wrong on any of the info above! This is just stuff I’ve found through my research.

Wait how can you see if they’ve viewed your slideroom??? I sent a dabce supplement but uploaded it directly

My dad came home yesterday with the mail and said I got something from Harvard, and I started freaking out. Low and behold it was just something form the alumni magazine for my older brother. Anyway, that’s why I’ve visited Harvard and some other schools, I’ve got a lot of older siblings who have went to and worked at universities.

@avani21 thank you for responding! i’ve been doing a lot of research lately and i’ve found a lot of different things from different sources, and to say the least, it’s just confused me even more haha. it’s reassuring that other people have found some of the same things as me though

@lilyk614 If it helps, I voluntarily subscribed to receive Harvard emails and they never sent any haha! :frowning:

Estimate of how many internationals apply SCEA? >1,000?

how do you see when they viewed your slideroom?

Has anyone tried tweeting to Harvard admissions?

(I have an AP Euro & AP Physics C midterm tomorrow and THIS is what I’m thinking about =D> )

@oRcHiD4 I saw on Twitter someone tweeted at harvard but no reply someone else replied and they said Dec 11-15 which is nothing new (if that’s what you were asking about)

I’m really nervous lol. This is going to come off as bragging but I worked really hard, especially on my stats, and have a 1600 and 3 800s on Subject Tests and I would hope that helps ahahaha. I mean, I worked hard on my ECs too, but I did those out of genuine passion and I’m grateful for those experiences no matter what. It’s just that all the time spent on SAT prep and stuff would have been for naught if I don’t get in. At least that’s how I feel right now. Maybe after I get rejected and move on, I’ll mature a bit and stop thinking that way lol.

@ohboy234 not to be mean but stats won’t be the deciding factor for any ivy/ivy level school. I mean, I think its wonderful to have those stats and it will only help and not hurt your application, but it wont add a deeper substance, unfortunately.

@ohboy234 but do have hope!! maybe they liked you through your essays and the ECs you did. the way I see it, though, is essays reign above all lol but you do need ECs to “back up” your essays, as if they’re like citations for your claim. so to sum it all up, Essays & ECs > grades & stats

I’m absolutely betting on the decisions being released on the 11th for two key reasons:

  1. As previously identified, the past two years decisions have been released on the second Tuesday of December (despite the incorrect reporting in the Crimson)
  2. In no year in the past four years has Harvard released on the same day as another Ivy. The only other option for release date seems to be the 13th (unless it is the 15th but that just seems late if history is any indication) yet this date is already taken by Columbia.

Thus, the 11th it seems to be.

lol I’m just hoping & praying it’ll release before my grandfather’s birthday

@ohboy234 working hard at something to improve yourself will not be for naught regardless of whether you are accepted to Harvard. My son has killed himself to become an elite rower for 4 years. His other ECs suffered but what he’s learned in discipline, accomplishment and self worth from that hard work is unparalleled as he moves through life. Think more big picture-you won’t regret working hard ever at anything ?

Catching up tonight but reading through these I see a lot of fun loving, accomplished, intelligent, hard working individuals. You really are all winners. I hope every one of you will focus on that this week. And as a parent, I can assure you that what every parent truly wants is a happy well adjusted child who grows into an adult who contributes to society. I’d bet you all fit that bill someday so heads up this week! Rooting for all of you!!

The fateful week is here! Best of luck to everyone’s decisions. For those who get deferred, it’ll be okay. It’s another chance, so seize that opportunity. For those who get rejected, just remember that it means that you just weren’t a match for Harvard and that you are a much better fit at another amazing, elite university. You just don’t know which one yet. Don’t get discouraged and continue to work on those applications. You’re bound to be accepted to a great place. This week will be eating me away as I wait in agony for that “status update”, but whatever happens, it’s for a reason. Good luck everyone! Hang in there. We got this.

And @hgrad2010 is correct. College is tough. And after college and grad school and your other academic endevours comes real life which will bring disappointments and setbacks along with all the good stuff. When you’re in high school you don’t want to hear it but those disappointments will be the very things that shape you into the amazing person you will become. Very few successful greats in life got there the easy way without a setback or 1000!

completely agree!! What college you go to doesn’t matter. what matters is ultimately your purpose and action in life. regardless of your college decision, always keep your head up high because you are worth e v e r y t h I n g. You CAN paint a better reality for yourself and for all the people in the world. BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!
