does harvard keep track of who visits their campus and match applicants when they apply if they stated they have been on a tour?

You posted this on the Harvard applicants thread as well. There shouldn’t have been a need for making another thread.

In any case, I’ll give you the same answer as I wrote on the applicants thread.

Harvard doesn’t track demonstrated interest. It’s Harvard. They can assume that just about everyone who applies is quite interested in going to Harvard. (That’s why they don’t need to ask for a “Why Harvard” supplement, or so.)

It’s nice to go on the tour if you’re seriously interested in Harvard, but the tour definitely will not give you any advantages.

^^ @Tiberium is correct. Harvard doesn’t track an applicant’s interest. See Harvard Common Data Set, C7 Data: http://oir.harvard.edu/files/huoir/files/harvard_cds_2011-2012.pdf

We went on their tour this summer, unimpressed, son did not apply, they were so NOT interested in any of the kids. It was such an attitude of “Ya, we are Harvard, give us your application $, buy a tee shirt.” I asked by the way, they said they do NOT log any visits etc.

^^ Maybe because of that attitude, Harvard’s Administration gives the absolute worst tours of any college (and I’m saying this with a child at the school). The better alternative is this company, founded by enterprising Harvard students: http://www.boston.com/jobs/news/jobdoc/2014/07/the_hahvahd_tour_showcases_ico.html

We toured Harvard this summer and had a very different experience. We appreciated the presentation, hearing from the students on stage, and the campus tour afterwards (though it was marred by all the construction and tourists). The Harvard tour was no better or worse than most others we’ve been on, and we felt it was valuable. Didn’t experience any “attitude,” either. Our only complaint was the parking.

since i put down on my app that i went on a tour, however, i just asked a friend of mine at harvard to show me around.

I was worried that if they do indeed keep track of visitors and then see my name not on the list, they will assume i am lying which would be bad.

But reading the above posts, i am guessing that I shouldnt worry about it becuz they wont care if i visited or not?

They don’t even keep a list. We visited twice and they never had us fill out a card, no preregistration, nada.

It would be a lot of unnecessary work to keep a list running. According to some accounts, Harvard Yard in the afternoon, often has more visitors than it does students.

That’s a lot of people to keep track of.

@Tiberium @VSGPeanut101 @gibby Thanks for the help guys, now i have less things to worry about, really appreciate it :)

For all the poor reviews of Harvard tours, I hear that Harvard students give pretty good tours of Yale.

lol, saw that youtube video as well
