<p>They notify applicants by phone and are looking for an immediate response. If you need time to think about it (and talk to your parents), they’ll usually give you 24 hours or so, but the admissions office needs a yes or no answer before they can call the next person on the list. (And don’t worry if you can’t answer the phone, they will leave a voice message saying this is so-and-so in Admissions, please give me a call back.")</p>

<p>just fyi, I have declined Harvard for Stanford, as well as quite a few people that I have met during my admit weekends at Princeton and Stanford (in fact, I would say that roughly 3 out of every 10 people have declined Harvard for elsewhere). Good luck to all on the waitlist!</p>

<p>I assume they share the financial aid award, if any, over the phone at that time; and they expect an immediate response? I would think that even the most ardent, committed waitlisted applicant would still need a bit of time review the financial aid information…</p>

<p>The regional coordinator calls you and you have at least one week AFTER the financial award letter arrives in the mail. When the FA office delayed mailing the awards, the decision deadline was also pushed back. It is not 24 hours, that info is wrong. Even when one does not expect financial aid, they still give ample time to respond. Check the previous years WL threads where the students described the time lengths for response, ie <a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/12648189-post334.html[/url]”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/12648189-post334.html&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

<p>The first round is in mid May and the rounds can go all the way to August, but they let most of the WL go by the second round in early June. Few students are kept until August.</p>

<p>Harvard matches offers from other ivies. The information that another poster wrote was incorrect as she was trying to match the offer of her younger child from one ivy, with the tuition paid for the older child at another ivy. As long as the offer was for you at both schools, then they will match it, even on the WL.</p>
