Harvard Waitlist Stats?

My son just rejected Harvard, so good luck to you all!

Is this guaranteed? Dartmouth guarantees matches; I’d like to know if Harvard will too in the chance that I do get accepted off the waitlist. :)

@Ana1: Thank you so much for providing those links! It definitely eases some of the stress to read other people’s experiences. I emailed the “fileroom” about a week ago with an update for my application, so now I just wait.

Does anyone know when, or if they will, start the WL review?

Learn to love the school that you have enrolled so you won’t be disappointed. MIT just announced that they will not accept anybody from the wait list this year.

Not true! In our D’s case, Princeton gave the better financial aid but H did not match P at all and it might be because she clicked ‘accept’ button without waiting for the answer from H’s financial aid office. In our S’s case, Yale gave the best aid (for some reason, Princeton gave less than H in his case). and H did not match Y but increased amount of financial aid they initially indicated. Since the amount of increase also applies to our D, so it worked out OK for us. So do not assume that H will match offers from other ivies.

mushmouse, what do you mean the amount of increase also applies to your D? Did you present both kids packages trying to have the aid match? Everybody who has posted and asked to have the aid matched, the fa did when they presented the award letter from other schools for the same kid, not younger/older siblings.

What I mean is that Harvard did not match for our kids. Yes, we did sent in financial aid letters from other schools. In our son’s case, they did increase the amount but is still less than what Yale gave him. This is the fact.

And Harvard fancial aid officer told us they do not match! They can re-review case per request, but not necessary match other offers. This is our experience.

And since both our kids go to Harvard, they receive the same amount financial aid. When they increased amount for our son, they increased for our daughter too. What I posted are the facts, you do not have to believe it. This is going to be my last post on this subject.

I did not say I do not believe you mushmouse, I am just trying to see what exactly happened because not only people here have been clamoring how H has one of the most generous financial aid package, but we have also seen some incredible fa packages, as well as matches with other schools. But it might also have been as you said that your child accepted the decision immediately. So that’s a lesson for all of us, wait to see the fa letter before replying. You might have a better reconsideration offer from the FA office.

For the WL crowd, based on previous years, the H yield information should be released sometime next week (May 10 2010, May 12, 2011 ).

Has anyone done anything to get off the waitlist besides accept their spot?

^ I sent an update letter and my superintendent wanted to write a letter so I think she did, but I don’t know for sure. Oh and I sent my third quarter grades.
