Harvard (WL) vs. Middlebury

Please help me!! Haha. My two top choices during this whole process had been Midd and Harvard (yes, I realize they are vastly different - I love both of them for different reasons). I've been accepted at Midd and waitlisted at Harvard. Now, I realize the chances that I get off the waitlist are slim, but it's a definite possibility as I have people pulling for me over there.

So obviously right now I'm focusing on Midd, but in case I do get off the H waitlist, I need to be able to make a very hard decision.... any input would be very much appreciated!

Primarily, is either school better for med school admissions? I want to be pre-med, but also probably major in English or Classics, but also take some psych courses and some languages... I think both schools are great in all of these departments but any concrete info/opinions on that would be much appreciated.

Beyond that, I really need to figure out where I'd be happiest spending the next four years of my life, and unfortunately, with the whole waitlist thing I can't actually go to any admitted students days or really get a feel for life at Harvard... any input comparing the two schools? Please? Thank you!

Why all the angst? You accept Middlebury’s offer, pay your deposit and remain on the waitlist. If Harvard calls (90 to 95% of the time, they don’t call), you deal with the issue at that time. Right now you need to give Middlebury a chance – try to fall in love with the school that fell in love with you! Play the hand you were dealt until the dealer slips you the ace!

BTW: There’s no comparison; if Harvard calls, you go!

^^ Just to be clear: Middlebury requires a $300 deposit to be paid by May 1st, so you need pay your deposit and then wait to hear from Harvard. In years past, Harvard has called people off the waitlist as early as mid-May and as late as mid-August. It’s best not to give the waitlist too much thought until you get a call.

Haha thank you, I’m aware of that. And I do love Midd. I just want to know why/if I should choose Harvard over Midd, if it comes to that. Which I’m obviously not counting on… it’s just a possibility that I need to consider.

“I just want to know why/if I should choose Harvard over Midd, if it comes to that.”

As others have said, why spend a second considering this when so many better things are ahead of you? e.g. having a blast your remaining weeks of HS; having a great last summer before college; getting ready for Midd.

If Harvard ever comes calling, then take time to evaluate. And YES, people turn down Harvard, even when they get called from the WL. It’s not unheard of.

And Midd is excellent for languages and liberal arts generally and reputed pre-med track
