JimmyJ...you're 'hypothetical candidate' is exaggerated. I hope the OP doesn't get scared. I know quite a few transfer students and I don't know a single one who has qualifications anywhere near the stats of the 'hypothetical applicant' you posted.

I'm not talking about applicants...I talking about sucessful transfers.

Jimmy, you're putting words into my mouth. I am not "daydreaming about being a CEO;" I'm just doing things I like and I hope I'll become successful with them. The CEO comment was in response to the reference to Barack Obama, who is running for pres. I said, if you go back that far in the thread, that I wouldn't be able to do just that, but I [sarcastically] noted with becoming a CEO. I think you have an entirely skewed image of who I am.

Other than that, I definitely understand where you're coming from about the intense competition in the Harvard admission pool. Note that if I thought that a 4.0 in itself would secure me a spot in these three schools, I wouldn't bother posting here. Understand?

Going back to what you were saying, however, why IS your friend transferring? That is, I believe that Columbia is arguably stronger in math and science than Harvard.

Yeah, besides the fact that I don't spend an hour a day dreaming of being a CEO, I'm also not self-delusional about the applicant pool. I just noticed one other thing, Jimmy.
You wrote, "make you sound more like the typical moneyhungry, ambitious Israeli immigrant hoping to strike it rich in corporate America"
I don't know if you are an anti-semite or not, but that comment sure as hell wouldn't bring up smiles on any Israeli's face.

" Being a CEO or something of that nature wouldn't be that bad though. These schools would help with that"

Implied here is that you're going to an American college (in this case, Harvard) in order to become a CEO. If I have a skewed image of who you are, it is the image that you projected yourself. And why are you directing your explanation toward me? I see that you have no response to what foxdie said, further comfirming the conclusion I drew.

"Note that if I thought that a 4.0 in itself would secure me a spot in these three schools, I wouldn't bother posting here. Understand?"
I came here with the good intention of advising you to set yourself apart in the application process and in return you adopt a condescending tone to preach to me why you post here (for which I could care less, anyway). While all this time I don't see you thanking any of the people who gave you advice here: me, laneb, foxdie, windcloudultra.

Are you trying to be a prick or is that your real personality. It seems to me that you're looking for a conflict of some nature. In fact, I looked up your profile, and it seems as though a rant of this sort is not very uncommon in your resume.
The point, which I guess you just refuse to take in, is that I did not project that personality. I guess you're thinking I'm some kind of Shylock who is just looking to make money. Since I have already tried to politely correct you in your perception of my personality, and that gesture was apparently shunned, I guess all I can do is nod my head at your personality.
Have a good life

Also, I hope you didn't mention that you want to be a rich CEO in your apps, because that would just make you sound more like the typical moneyhungry, ambitious Israeli immigrant hoping to strike it rich in corporate America. In any case I hope they oversee your commonality and look deep into your essays instead.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one who saw that comment as blatantly racist and anti-semetic.

JimmyJ, I wonder what qualifies you to declare in such succinct terms what goes on in the minds of Harvard admissions? Wouldn't getting more Chinese faculty aid more in "keeping up" with China than getting students?

Well, based on your post, Jimmy, I think you are the one who has a skewed image of himself and is in denial about being prejudiced...
