-board of trustees' budget and finance committee
-working part time as a loan officer

HS Activities:
-Hospital volunteer
-Varsity basketball
-Varsity quiz team (2nd place in NV) captain

Lots of academic awards in specific classes, national merit scholar, national ap scholar, won various french / spanish contests, chemistry olympiad finalist

I believe I will get very good recommendations, and I spent a fair amount of time / energy on my essays so they should be really good

I would really appreciate your 2 cents.

Very nice GPAs and Test scores. I don't know if your ECs are strong enough for Harvard. However I really think you have a chance with Yale & Williams.

You should give us an update later on to what schools you get into.

Good luck!

where are you transfering from?

Wow well I mean u are definately a strong canidate for harvard, yale, and williams, but obviously no one is a "sure thing" at any of those schools. You are extremely bright as well as athletic, and you also work part time which is another good attribute. (Do you even sleep? lol) I think you have a good shot.

I'm transferring from Occidental college, I'll definitely notify you guys about the results. Just wondering, however, what you mean by "a chance?" By the way, I went to Oxy for one simple reason: they gave me, an international student, a full-ride scholarship. The reason why I'm not applying to other high-caliber schools (such as Penn or Columbia, for example) is just that - I won't get any money there as an int'l.

Now that you mentioned your activities in more detail...I think you have a better chance at Harvard than I first thought..still you never know as danceluvur26..i wish you best of luck..

hope that research on refrigerators was worthwhile lol

lol it was just one of my wacky ideas to invent something. Sadly I didn't end up patenting it because an existing technology apparently had a very similar operation mechanism.

Geez!!! on top of it all you try to invent something tomahawk815!! What haven't you done? lol

Well, Barak Obama transferred from Occidental College to Columbia, if that helps.

oh geez...i don't know why this didn't pop up before..what school are you attending now? That could play a role too.

lol danceluvur...tomahawk..you might as well just start a fan club ;]

lol, too bad I'll never be able to be a pres though (I only moved to the US 5 years ago). Being a CEO or something of that nature wouldn't be that bad though. These schools would help with that :)

...so...what school do you go to now? confused

lol tomahawk518 ;) With all of your intelligence you'll do something amazing (but as you said, these school could help to give you a "boost")

Occidental College. Not the most prestigious school, but I didn't have a choice (they gave me, an int'l student, $43,000 a year)

oh gosh..i feel so stupid now..you've answered this same question before..im so sorry!

again...we can really say if you can get in or not..but with your strong academic and extracurricular stuff..i almost wish you do get in..you practically deserve it

just keep your fingers crossed for the decisions :P

Thanks sofa :), I really appreciate your responses

tomahawk the problem is that you're exactly like so many other Israeli students in America that you've very little to stand apart from them. You are from a culture and nationality that is very well KNOWN for getting nothing less than 800s across the board scores, speaking 5+ languages, chem. or math olympiad (although HYP certainly prefer IMO goldmedalists over chem), inventing and inquiring within multiple academic subjects. The only thing that stands you apart may be your athletic involvement, but then again, you're not a recruited athlete. So I hope your essays made up for that by presenting a UNIQUE personality rather than the typical Israeli teenager mold. Of course, your achievements sound just absolutely incredible to the average white American student (like the posters above) but to the seasoned admissions officer they are nothing out of the ordinary. To give you a better idea of what the typical candidate from X country looks like, let's take a look at an ordinary transfer app to Harvard from an int'l Chinese student:

GPA first semester at Columbia University: 4.00
SAT: 780/800/780
SATIIs: 800/800/800/800 (Math IIC, Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
Speaks 5 languages: Mandarin, Korean, German, French, and, of course, English
Three-time International Math Olympiad goldmedalist (10th to 12th grade)
Two-time Physics Olympiad goldmedalist
Two-time chemistry olympiad silvermedalist.
Winner of 5 prestigious Chinese calligraphy contests (will send one to admissions office as supplement)-- N.B. many admissions officers end up hanging these on their office walls.
Written 4 consecutive perfect papers on the AIME and AHSME
2nd Place in Intel competition in China, 5 year research internship at Hsinghua University

And the fact that he has a deep background in Chinese culture rather than, say, Israeli culture makes him a very valuable asset to any American university wishing to keep up politically and economically with a surging China.

Also, I hope you didn't mention that you want to be a rich CEO in your apps, because that would just make you sound more like the typical moneyhungry, ambitious Israeli immigrant hoping to strike it rich in corporate America. In any case I hope they oversee your commonality and look deep into your essays instead.

The Committee places primary emphasis on your college record, reasons for transfer, and recommendations from college faculty and administrators.

It's all about the reason for transfer. Harvard, Yale, etc. could have an entire college filled with 4.0's if they wanted. They DON'T, however, because they want people who bring a lot of diversity to their school. Come up with why you are different from other candidates.

JimmyJ's post is a huge pile of stinking Cr*p.

However, I don't think any Fortune 500 CEO grew up thinking "I want to be a CEO." No, the vast majority of CEO's are innovators and often the founders of their respective companies. Having such a shortsighted goal is frankly laughable coming from a guy with such high stats.
You should instead be dreaming of innovating, changing the world, etc. Financial rewards come then. (think Hurley and Chen).

Besides only 10% of Fortune 100 CEOs received their degrees from the ivy league. (source: USA today)

That's right, feel free to just say some random comment about my post without stating your own case and why they oppose my points.

"However, I don't think any Fortune 500 CEO grew up thinking "I want to be a CEO."
That is exactly the point I was getting at, but obviously foxdie! you have problems with some other--though undisclaimed-- parts of my post.

While me and laneb2005 are trying to help the OP by giving him advice to set himself apart in the application process, you offer no such advice and just budge in to smear dung on people's posts like a lowlife.
