Good fella's of CC, what are my chances at: Penn, Columbia

Activities:
-chemistry research
-president of debate team (although we don't compete against other schools)
-board of trustees' budget and finance committee student representative
-working part time as a loan officer (until about a month ago)

HS Activities:
-Hospital volunteer

I believe I will get very good recommendations

I would really appreciate your 2 cents.

Also, and this is very important: what schools do you think I should apply to other than columbia and penn? I currently go to a top 40 LAC, and I just want to go to a school with a more intellectual student body and a better overall academic / professional environment. I am thinking of going into investment banking, consulting, or a similar Wall Street career. However, I am unsure of this route, and am still considering going into medicine (another true passion of mine )

I am also VERY excited because I had been an international student until about 2 days ago (GREEN CARD! FINALLY!), meaning that my request for fin. aid will not be a factor in my applications :)

Thank you,

Gene

bump bump bump;
i would really appreciate advice regarding where I should apply

Oh..you're in pretty much wherever you want to go.

Nice stats. Real nice. Apply to IVYs along with Stanford, MIT, and whatever you see on the top 20s list.

No lie.

You could have got into a lot of good schools as a freshman...why did you wait and transfer?

i just got my green card on Weds. of last week, so id been classified as an financially dependent int'l before then. Now I'm free!

Honestly, though, Stanford, MIT, and the likes have extraordinarily low acceptance rates. What schools do you think would be bankable, meaning >40% chances of admission?

No GOOD schools have above a 40% chance of admission, except public flagships for in-staters. So unless you live in North Carolina, Virginia, Michigan, or California...uhhmm...none?

I was talking a 40% chance considering my application - not an overall admission rate.

You should apply to University of Chicago. It has everythig you want-a "more intellectual student body and a better overall academic / professional environment" and your chances of acceptance are better the Penn/ Columbia. Check out the info on transfers...http://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/level2.asp?id=37

you should apply to all the ivies i think you have an above average likely hood of bieng accepted . Although, keep in mind admissions is a crap shoot.
