Is it possible for a valedictorian with perfect SAT's, a ton of EC's, class president, went to a tough private school, urm, etc. to get rejected from Harvard? I mean, even if you are a perfect apllicant, is it still a 50/50 shot?

if you are what u say u r, then it comes down to if your "Special" in areas like ec and sports, and even then u never know, but u do have a good chance

Definitely. Isn't Harvard mostly valedictorian?

I don't think so...

There's always the possibility that that type of person could be rejected.

They can't be rejected if they're Homer Simpson

It's more than a possibility. Thousands of them ARE rejected every year. It takes more than numbers to get in.

Depends on how tough the private school is I guess - its hard to see the valedictorian of Andover or somewhere getting rejected - but w/o any ECs at all it could happen. For less elite private schools you are by no means a shoe-in.

Sounds like an exaggeration that "thousands" of people get rejected from Harvard with those stats. Quite frankly, there aren't thousands of valedictorians with 2400's that are class presidents, go to tough private schools, AND are URM's. But I think the point GoldShadow is making is that just fitting one of those categories (i.e. perfect scores) does not guarantee anything.

lol I definitely dont have those stats, I was just saying hypothetically.
