ANyone got into harvard this year? Can you guys describe what exactly helped you get in? Scores, activities, essays, etc…
You may want to check out this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/1962932-harvard-class-of-2021-regular-decision-results-only.html#latest for RD acceptances, as well as this one: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/1939648-harvard-class-of-2021-scea-results-only-thread.html for SCEA acceptances!
first: chill. This post and your user name suggest you will be too amped up one college on once college decision time comes that if you get rejected you will be devastated.
Second: You’re a little early to ask this question, as each year is different, and at 2 years out it is significantly different in terms of institutional priority.
Third: Harvard is so selective there is no way to deduce a pattern, and at best you can discern already recognized factors (URMs, legacies, etc).
Fourth: There is no formula to admissions. You can get rejected or accepted even if you should have gotten the other result. If there was a formula, someone would have become a millionaire selling that by now
Fifth: There already is a Harvard 2021 class discussion, ask them.
Sixth: Any result from this question is a case study, and so if you see someone did film and they got in this does not mean everyone who gets in does film. Correlation does not equal causation
Seventh (and final): There are already average ACT and GPA numbers out there. Harvard is so selective that no score or EC (unless it is an institutional priority, see number 2) can “help” you get in.
For every person who did X, Y, and Z, and it got them into Harvard, there are probably a dozen other people who ALSO did X, Y, and Z, and it DIDN’T get them into Harvard.
@harvard2023: While this blog was written by the director of communications for MIT Admissions, you can just as easily substitute the words Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford and a dozen other colleges in place of MIT: http://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/there_is_no_formula
I had three students get into Harvard this year, and all three of them had completely top-drawer achievements in every meaningful area; although they were very different applicants, they had maximized their accomplishments across the board.
Don’t try to package yourself for Harvard or any particular school. Just live your life, work hard, be a nice person, and find a college that is a good fit. Trying to arrange your life for admissions can really affect your life in the present for a future goal that might not even happen.
Your user name is worrisome. Don’t set yourself up for a depressing senior year spring. Try to learn about a wide range of colleges, and have some that you would be really happy with besides Harvard!
Go to an Info Session. There’s no “insider” information that can help you.
Thanks for all that replied
