D had an early action application completed Nov. 10 and just got accepted. The info on the portal changed to the 24 hour message yesterday afternoon and was updated to the “Congratulations” message this morning when she checked.

Just wanted to let all of you who are still waiting know that they are still apparently going through the early action apps and are still offering acceptances… in case you were really beginning to wonder, like I was!

In any case, we already sent her deposit to another school, in part because this whole ridiculously long waiting process made her realize that maybe attending such a big university is not for her! Good luck to all of those still waiting.

MaddMod - Congrats to your D! Unfortunately for us, my D was waitlisted. UConn is her first choice and I would like to urge all those who have been accepted and know that they will NOT be going, to please decline the offer. (Not really sure how you do this, but it will allow more waitlisted students like my daughter a chance of being accepted, possibly earlier than May 1st). I know in all the excitement, oftentimes students do not respond to the colleges that they are not planning to attend. It is so helpful if everyone would inform the colleges that they are not planning to attend. Congrats again! I hope we are as fortunate!

JLL2322-
You are right. I will remind her to let them know she is declining so it will open up the space for others.
I wish you and your D the best.

JL2332 - My D was also waitlisted… and UConn was her first choice. I saw on other threads the 3 criteria you mentioned - and my D had all 3 (admittedly barely on the scores with a 26 ACT). She is top 10% of her class and 3.8 GPA, just not a great test taker. I just wish they had not waited sooooo long to make that decision.

MaddyMod - Thank you so much!
mamomoftwo - Ughh. Our daughters sound like they are so similar, though yours is clearly higher with top 10%. That is fantastic. Wow, that is just incredible to me. Honestly, I know of a girl with nowhere near the credentials of your D or mine who was accepted back in November. I just don’t get it. It is very frustrating. I cannot for the life of me understand why it takes from Oct. to early Feb. to review an “early action” application. Sounds like a very inefficient operation to me, and certainly inconsiderate for these kids that work hard to get their apps in early. Best of luck moving off that wait list! I’ll be hoping for you!

A friend of my daughter’s was just wait listed yesterday. She had excellent credentials; a month or so ago other students in our high school with lower qualifications were accepted. They all applied Early Action. Something is very wrong in UCONN’s Admissions Dept. Almost seems like they misplaced a bunch of applications - and how do you wait list excellent EA kids when you have barely begun to go through RD candidates? Defer, OK, but wait list?

I did call admissions yesterday as I had never heard of waitlisting EA applicants… and was told that this is the first year they are doing that. They decided not to defer anyone - you were either accepted, denied, or waitlisted. They also told me that they made this decision because they received a record number of apps. Seems to me that perhaps they were just overwhelmed with the numbers.

I read your posts and spoke to my S because he was accepted but wasn’t going to attend. We went out to Student Center and withdrew his application. Hopefully this will open it up for someone on the waitlist!

Thank you MOMCT68! I very much appreciate that!

Mamomoftwo - Thanks for the info. Seems ridiculous that competitive early action applicants will not go into the regular pool with the regular decision kids. I know that the Director is new as of Sept., so maybe he is trying something different. Doesn’t seem to make sense to me. And we wait…

I’m not early action, I’m attempting to transfer into the nursing program (with all classes but nursing classes done). I was told I probably won’t hear until Mid-March. And to think I hurried to get my application submitted in December because I thought “rolling admissions” meant they’d look at my app before those who applied after me.

Hey, folks, this is for kb8277 and anyone else who is interested, but I just checked my student center this morning and have been accepted as a transfer student for UCONN nursing. Hopefully you’ll get your update(s) (hopefully accepted!) soon.

I gotta say, it is extremely difficult to find posts like mine, it seems like none of the people who have gotten in from previous years want to let future applicants in on the secret acceptance date!

I’m being facetious, but I hope that someone down the road can use this date as something of a baseline. Obviously not every year will be the same, but still… I probably would have toned down how many times I checked the system over the past couple of months if I had known that my acceptance would come in early March-ish. Probably. Maybe.
