I still haven't received mine since I just sent in additional information about my mom's income (my parents are separated). I've seen a few threads already about people not being satisfied with their financial aid packages and I'm beginning to get worried :/ My parents' combined income is <30k and I really need a good package to be able to go...

Ugh, have not gotten mine yet…

@yellowsnowman

Are you international?

If you are not international and your parents income is less than 30K and they don’t have a lot of assets, then you will get a financial aid package as described on the cornell website. Basically, it will require a small student contribution and that is it. Everything else will be covered.

If you are international, then I have no idea how they calculate aid.

Yellowsnowman, I’m in the same situation as you. My parents combined income is <30k and I’m getting very worried about what kind of financial aid package I’m going to get :(.

Although the expected contribution is a bit higher than they expected, my parents are still happy with the fin. aid package we got. :)

good page for information

So, as you can see. For a family with income less than $60,000 and assets less than $100,000 you will only pay the student contribution.

Again, this doesn’t apply to International Students. This is set policy, it doesn’t vary and it isn’t subjective. If you are under the amounts listed, you get everything paid for, more or less.

Yea, my rents are happy with the package we received. It was only about one to two thousand dollars more that we expected in terms of EFC, so it will do. Still costing me less than a state school, without scholarships of course.

what exactly is student contribution?

More importantly, how much is student contribution for a student whose family income is <60K?

My father just sent in his Income and Expense Form. I don’t know why they want this from Non-Custodial parent.

More importantly, how much is student contribution for a student whose family income is <60K?

My family’s income is around 100k, but my student contribution was around what’s left over from all the aid and that I got. For the whole year, my contribution was around 1.5k. My parents’ contribution is exactly 11k.

Because non-custodial parents are still expected to help contribute to their child’s education?

This page has more information about student contribution.

I still haven’t received my fin aid package either. Let’s wait :)

^ OK! I’m not the only one (;

sorry im still kinda confused about student contribution. does that mean we have to work during the summer and school year like work opportunities?

If we do have to work during the summer, who cares!?
I would just love to be able to attend Cornell, no matter how much work I have to put in.
