Has anyone appealed rejection decision?

Has anyone appealed rejection decision to Pittsburgh? Does this approach ever work??

S was rejected to Pitt in Oakland (engineering) and was optioned to Greensburg for one year transfer program.
Stats:
Pa. Resident
GPA 3.6, ACT 30, English 31, Math 30, (Did not submit SAT)
EC's - job for 4 years, 5 school clubs, hospice dog therapy volunteer for 3 years
4 Ap's the rest honors classes

We sent an appeal letter this week with 7th semester grades 3.8 un-weighted including A's in Physics 2, and Calculus

Your son has good credentials. Funny that he was sent to a regional campus for a year. When did he apply? Pitt has rolling admissions, so kids were applying as early as August. Maybe Pitt just ran out of room.

If they just ran out of room, they probably would have waitlisted him (not sure if they utilize waitlisting), or admitted him for Spring term.

We applied in late November; high school counselor said lots of kids from his school applied there so that could have hurt us. We sent letter and new info this week so we should hear soon.

Appeal letter worked…Son accepted to School of Arts and sciences and waitlisted for Engineering.

Why did they waitlist him for engineering??? His stats are much higher than kids from my school!!! I’m sure if he attends Pitt under Arts and Sciences with those scores in a year he should have no trouble transferring to the Engineering School.

After 7 months of College Applications, visits, etc…Son has decided to go to Pitt and transfer to Engineering School after freshman year. I am glad we fought for his admission which he clearly earned.

Omg i need to do this! Thaank youu!

^^^
201126: You think they “ran out of room” in October?

well obviously no they didn’t. i was rejected because i have a 3.3 gpa and a 25 ACT score. i don’t really appreciate the sarcasm…if that is what you are getting at.

201126: Good luck with your appeal!

thanks aglages

Does anyone know the process for an appeal? I am interested in possibly pursuing one but I’m not really sure what all it entails. Here’s my info:
SAT:1940 (720 CR, 560 M, 660 W)
GPA: 3.7 weighted
EC’s: Plenty including sports, clubs, volunteering and community organizations

I even applied to major in Political Science so it’s not exactly an extremely competitive major at Pitt. While I figured I was on the bubble I was a little surprised to be rejected by Pitt and I have to imagine I’m fairly close to being able to get admitted. My guidance counselor called and the admissions counselor said that my GPA was lower than they usually accept. If I can get my math SAT up and bring my GPA up with a mid-year report do any of you think it would be worth appealing?

eastman, I’m surprise you were rejected with those stats. What was your high school program like? Did you take a challenging program?

Your GPA is low? That’s crazy talk. I’m puzzled too.

What’s your de-weighted GPA?

rocknroll: Not including my senior schedule I had 5 AP courses and the rest were basically honors.
quill: I’m not sure what my un-weighted GPA is, my school doesn’t do that. How do most colleges weigh each letter grade in terms of points?

A - 4
b - 3
c - 2
d - 1
f - 0

This doesn’t seem right, I would definitely appeal. If you check the oficial class of 2015 thread you will see people who were accepted with stats lower than yours.

Thanks guys, I’ve drafted a letter of appeal and I’m going to give it to my guidance counselor to look over tomorrow.
