April application

My son just applied to College of Sciences after being completely dismayed by the whole admissions process.Never considered before as we believed the rhetoric of the privates. We are in PA and Pitt has a great physics dept. 1470 SAT, 750 math and physics subject tests, perfect essay, ACT 31, 10 AP courses 3.9 GPA (W) Wondering if he will get in this late, if any scholarships are still available, and would he be notified before I have to write a check to a school he doesn’t want to attend.
Thanks for any thoughts!

Great stats but being this late, I would contact admissions and ask directly. Scholarships not likely (merit that is) - it has become much tougher this year to get merit awards…and earlier is always easier at Pitt. Consider a gap year if you truly feel that he doesn’t want to attend where he had admissions. It’s worked well for friends of my children, and gave them focus for the following year.

I felt this way about the admissions process as well, however, we applied early to Pitt and my son just committed this past Saturday to go. He will be majoring in computer engineering. As far as merit scholarships, Pitt gave us none. I even filed a cost analysis 2 weeks ago showing the other scholarship offers that he received and was turned down again. However, their engineering program impressed us so much and he really sees himself there. So we pulled the trigger and are going for it. From what I read and saw, they didn’t even consider you for scholarship money unless you had a minimum of a 33 ACT. We are in PA as well. I really do believe that even though paying full price here, it is the best value of all of the schools my son was accepted to. Hope this helps.
