<p>Curious to learn more about this school. My son applied (it's a safety for him) but doesn't know much about it.</p>
<p>Also, he did not receive any "Stetson VIP" log-in details, so we're not sure how to check the status of his application.</p>
<p>I applied for Fall 2013 recently. Also visited; it is nice (just the dorms were my only complaint) and I think it’s very rural, so you decide how you feel on that. On the other hand, the people are super nice. They made my family feel special and comfortable during the visit. And checking on your application status could probably be done by calling their admissions office.</p>
<p>My son got accepted with the Faculty scholarship ($23/K per year!) but I don’t think he feels too strongly about going there. He has his heart set on Tulane or U of Miami…</p>
<p>Congratulations on the acceptance and merit package, even if he doesn’t want to go! I know Ill see how I really feel about the school when I get the decision lol!</p>
<p>My son is a science guy (biochemistry, etc.). Not sure how Science-focused this school is? He’s more inclined towards FL Tech if he doesn’t get into his top two.</p>
<p>I’m also interested in science (pre-med actually) and I think Stetson looks like it has a good science section. Many know them for their law program and law school, but when I visited the school it looked like science was nice and challenging. IIRC some seniors wrote a kind of senior thesis-type paper about researched topic.</p>
<p>Also, I was interested if FLTech for a while but I personally think they are more for the engineering/robotics type of people. Another reason I didn’t apply is that it’s like 70+% guys, 20+% girl… Idk if that will be a factor for your son, but it was for me lol</p>
<p>That doesn’t seem to bother him. However…he does not drive! And I think he might be stranded at either school (vs. Miami or Tulane where you definitely do not need to drive).</p>
<p>To be honest, that is also a concern of mine. When my family went on the tour of Stetson, our guide tried to say everything was in biking distance, but when we left we explored the town… It seemed very small and a distance away. I also visited Miami, it was TOO big of a city for me, so that knocked them off. It is all about the “fit”! If he likes the downtown of Miami, I wouldn’t think he’d like Stetson’s city.</p>
<p>Well, Miami felt very ‘outside the city’ to us. It’s an enclave all its own. </p>
<p>The good thing is that we can go visit and stay with my mom in Orlando (seeing Stetson, FL Tech, Rollins and Eckerd where he just got accepted as well) all in one trip!</p>
<p>Cool! I visited Rollins too, it’s really nice and they really make you seem special when you visit.</p>

<p>I live nearby and had a friend drop out after a year. The tuition is costly, the dorms are awful, the town nearby is deadbeat to any college freshmen…</p>
<p>Thanks ian2buckz. This was my impression from other things I’ve read on the internet. They are pursuing him VERY aggressively which made me think they’re having a hard time getting kids to come.</p>
<p>With the scholarship it’s very affordable, but just doesn’t seem like a good fit for him. It’s only 40 minutes from my mom, so we can easily go visit and see what he think. :)</p>
<p>Just keep an open mind! If he’s going to be in a dorm for a year or four make sure he’s comfortable with the fit</p>

<p>accepted, got my letter on christmas eve haha that was a nice surprise. i received a faculty scholarship- $23K- and florida is a looong way from nyc so i’m most likely not going.</p>
<p>Hey, I’m currently a Stetson student. Things to consider: Stetson just spent a ton of money on football, and spends very little (especially comparatively) on academics. The teachers are wonderful, and they’re not in it for the money. The departments could use more resources though. Also, Stetson requires students to live in the dorms for 3 years unless they can meet strict qualifications to move off campus (like living with family nearby). The dorms are very expensive and most are run down. Finally, keep in mind that your financial aid is likely to decrease after you first year. Don’t expect the same amount. They don’t care about you after you’re a freshman. Their retention rates are horrible due to this fact. If you have questions about Stetson, feel free to email me.</p>
