$45 is not a deposit, not by a long shot. It is an application fee. The deposit is significantly more.

Duke58: UT Austin is a fantastic school in the coolest city in America. Congrats on a great choice.

PS. Can my son have your $12k scholarship? That’s exactly what we’re short for USC.
Just joking.

I’ve had only a 2750/semester loan added to my financial aid page on USConnect today and that was at some point early this morning. I still haven’t received in email saying that my package is complete so there should be more added to my page right? I heard that they add stuff one by one and the package isn’t complete until that email is received. Is this correct?

Nihility, forgive me I’m the one who used the wrong word (I may have in another thread). All that is required to get a “place in line” for housing right now is the $45 application fee.

I just went online to check…There’s an $800 fee for housing!!! Or is the $45 enough to have a spot for housing for now? Thank you!:)

The application fee is $45. When they offer you the specific room, the deposit on it is $800. It gets applied to the fees, $400 per semester.

The idea is that by the time you have to actually pay the $800 (which is part of the housing charge), you have decided for certain that you are attending USC. If you aren’t sure, the $45 is worth the security of having the best chance at the dorm you want.

I still haven’t recieved my aid award yet either! On the day when most of the people got their awards (i think it was the 6th) , USC still had some more required documents for me, and they were all successfully received by the 11th… when should I call regarding financial aid as the clock is ticking as we’re 1/2 way done with april?

I’m in your exact same situation. USC said it was missing one file that stated I will not file taxes for 2012. I’m getting very nervous that they will give worse financial aid at this late in the game.

Finally received my financial aid yesterday. I’m thrilled to say that USC was very generous and I will be able to attend!! So, for those who haven’t heard yet - all hope is not lost!!

Mynemezzo: I got mind yesterday too. Very generous aid, and I will also be attending!

I hope everyone else gets theirs soon :))

How much did you receive in grants/scholarships? Just wondering to get an idea of how much I might get

@recovering hobo i’m so scared right now! i called the FAO and they said that my award would be ready in 3-5 business days… but that’s so CLOSE to the deadline! So knowing USC… i probably won’t get it until Friday next week! and it’s really dumb because my stuff was in & i got a email saying my file was complete…

i just hope they give me enough money. but now i’m getting scared they wont.

I STILL haven’t received my financial aid award. I was admitted back in January, and I have submitted all of my documents on time and as soon as they asked for it. I called them last week, and the man said it would be ready by the end of last week, but it wasn’t. I called again today, and the woman told me that my file had been on hold for some reason, but it wasn’t now and she couldn’t tell me which date it would be ready, but that they were doing their best to get out the awards by May 1.

I am pretty frustrated right now not only because of their ambiguous answers and the fact that my award isn’t ready yet, but also because I cannot begin to make my final decision on college yet. Depending on their financial aid award package, I may have to do a last minute college visit, but I can’t until it’s ready!

I apologize if I am ranting, but i was just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as me, or if anyone had any answers to my problem.

Thanks,
usc3539

We received our initial award, but it was clear that they did not take a few things into consideration that we had sent them a letter about in late Feb. They asked us to re-send the letter last week, but are now saying we may not know until mid May! Obviously too late, so we are praying for an answer by 5/1. They said they’ve been inundated with appeals but I would definitely give them a call since you haven’t yet received your first offer. Unless things change, my daughter cannot attend USC. We can’t possibly manage what they are expecting us to pay and were counting on some outside scholarships to help us with our portion, but we found out they will simply apply it toward the grant she received. Good luck to you, I hope you get it soon.

in my scenario, they didn’t add in the pell grant which I qualified for from the FAFSA… and they said that it was up to THEIR discretion to give me the pell grant or not… but isnt the pell grant by the federal government and not them?
