question: why did the harvard rep call u in the first place?

are you a minority?

It's what sets you apart. Basically, what characteristic / skill do you posess that can "hook" the people at admissions.

I think that Harvard representative was a bit misleading in his statements. Those scores are definitely good enough, but these are usually students that come from a disadvantaged background, i.e., they went to a school where the academics were not rigorous enough, you're first-generation college, etc. Remember that the middle 25-75% of students have scores that are above 690 on each section of their SAT Is and on each of their top three SAT II exams. This doesn't mean that doing below a 690 is necessarily bad, but that a score in the range you specified should be put into its context.

Sure someone has gotten in with a SAT Score in the 2100 range. The admissions committee at Harvard takes other factors into consideration as well.

obviously someone has

athletes definitely

so i have great grades, taken pretty much every chance to excel in class work, 3 years advanced in science and 2 years advanced in math. I have great extracurriculars, but I have terrible test scores...

2190 on my Sat's
720 , 600, 600 on my SAT II's.

If "advanced in math/science" means that you are taking the courses 2-3 years ahead of schedule, that is at odds with the math score and the SAT-II in particular would undermine any impression of being a whiz-kid.

If all it means is that you're taking the courses on the regular schedule but for 2-3 years the courses were the most advanced version offered at the local high school, then the scores may be viewed more generously if the high school is weak.

The median Academic Index at Harvard was 220 a few years ago. You could compute your AI and compare with that. No university in the United States would reject out of hand an applicant with the statistics listed above.

2190? are you human?!?? I think a 2190 is an EXTREMELY respectable score! I don't know who told you that that is a terrible quote unquote..score lol. I got an 1860 andi know that's horrid. so in perspective, your score relaly IS good.

it was funny bc a friend who is one grade below me was like "yea i got a 2280, its horrible" and im like, thinking WHAT

I got into the Harvard class of 2011 with a 2190 (770 W 750 V 670 M)! My SAT IIs were all in the low 700s (720, 740, 730). I am a white female from WA state and have no connections at all with the school, am not a first-generation, blah, blah. I got a 222 on my PSATs but decided not to retake the SATs. You should definitely retake the SAT IIs.

It's so funny how at least 20% of the people who get into Harvard, don't deserve it.

Maybe we should have a topic along the lines of "Who Got Into Harvard, But Didn't Deserve it?"

How do you know they don't deserve it? The majority of kids who apply to Harvard are qualified and deserve to go there, so why would Harvard except non-deserving people?

accept..

but besides the spelling i totally agree w/ hotpiece101. I think it's kind of unfair to say they don't "deserve it".

To answer your question.. look at the SAT score range for Harvard.

Harvard is a school in which you do need high SAT scores to get in.. approximately 415 in the class of 2009 had SAT scores of 1580 or above..

However, there were approximately 415 who had SAT scores of 1400 or below..

Granted that many of these people had some sort of special 'hooks' but I'm sure that quite a few who seemed interesting, intelligent, and hardworking who had 'low' SAT scores and w/o hooks found themelves to be admitted to Harvard.

They don't deserve it compared to other people I've seen rejected. That's for sure.

You know 20% of Harvard's class? And how many people do you 'know' that have been rejected? That's an impressive number.

Now, now, don't get defensive.

(Please don't take random figures seriously... goodness me...)

By the way, WCU, which Harvard class are you part of?

I certainly hope you weren't saying that I don't deserve acceptance based on my scores that were comfortably in the 25%-75% range. That would be cruel and make you out to be overly assuming and ignorant, seeing as you know nothing about me nor my application.

Wow, that was the most pathetic thing I've ever heard anyone say.

Did I at any point even point to specific people?

I think it would make you overly assuming and ignorant (and cruel) to think and mention that about me.

Please, get a life before you get a college degree.
