Do you think I have a chance of getting into Harvard with a 1870 SAT score but a 3.9 GPA in IB, Student Government, Captain of Soccer, musician, homecoming princess, and I do mission work in Cambodia and community service locally and I am a minority? I just want to know my chances. I personally think I wrote a really nice essay and I think my interview went really well, but I just don't know. I just kind of want some feedback

I don’t think “homecoming princess” will help you with college admissions. That is soley based on popularity vote.
No, with an 1870 you can’t get into Harvard. Simple as that. I’m sure there are other great colleges you can get into with your EC’s, but not Harvard.

how much does being a minority help me?

There are minorities that score 2300’s. Being a minority will not fluff up your score. Maybe if you got a 2100 on the SAT it might help a bit but it just won’t provide you as much help as you need.

You’ve already submitted, so just relax. It’s a long shot for almost anyone. No point in asking us, really, at this point.

Actually, being a minority is equal to an extra 100 points on your SAT.

This is when I curse myself for being thoroughly European, with Irish, Welsh, English, and German ancestors! Why couldn’t my ancestors go to Asia or Africa and get married to a native, thus making me 1/ 32 Asian or African?

At least I’m female. Females are automatically a minority, which is sexist and stupid, but if it’ll help me get into Harvard…

HarvardRox, please check the post dates on these threads. Most of these conversations are dead and don’t really need to be restarted.

FWIW, being a woman is not “automatically a minority,” and will not help you get into Harvard. Harvard and other very top colleges naturally get classes with about 50-50 nowadays. At slightly lower-ranked colleges (but ones still ranked surprisingly high), men are the minority.
Edit: and this was for a current applicant, so he or she has already received his or her admissions decision!
