qju2882 My son theorizes that they have a “secret waitlist” and that’s why they push decisions back to April 15. They don’t want anyone to think they aren’t first choice by being placed on a waitlist but that system seems to work for all the other schools.

I agree with halflokum that the issue is not disorganization at Ithaca. Transperancy is generally a good thing but in this case it certainly causes added stress. I think it’s a nice school with a very good MT/Acting program along with music and a few other things. My son did put 2nd and 3rd choices (acting and the BA Theater Arts) but it seems like the people who were accepted to those programs as alternatives had their major changed on myIthaca.

I pine for those days of just waitin’ for the letter in the mail:)

Ithaca is a great school, I did not mean to offend anyone. I just do not think it is very professional to take this much time when all other schools can get decisions out much sooner, or at least let students know where they are in the admissions process. I am lucky enough to have other acceptances.

Lots of top-tier schools… CMU, NYU, Syracuse, BOCO, ect…have not notified anyone of anything yet. It’s the trickle here that drives people nuts. But until you are out you really are still in contention.

D received rejection letter this week. It was a painful process to see acceptance coming in and some are left to wonder. For a while, she was still able to access her profile in IC giving false hope.

@halflokum - agree with you that unless the kid indicated a second or third area of interest, admission will not be offered. That’s what a happened to my D.

@Flossy - yes, I prefer for school to notify applicants in one go - like Emerson (though another rejection for my D). I believe and hope that will the be case for the other remaining schools you mentioned.

I called today as my D was able to assess her account but had not received any letter. I was told by the admission dept (who were very nice and sympathetic) that she was not accept. I was told her letter was scheduled to go out. So if you want to know they will tell you.

My audition moved from ‘What We Need’ to ‘What We Have Received’ 11 days ago and I have no word about my result (I do live in the Philippines, though, which is probably why I haven’t received my letter yet; the postal system here is notoriously unreliable) - do you guys think I should call?

I would call at the end of tomorrow to make sure a decision has been made/letter sent. The reason is, tomorrow they come back from Spring Break so there might be a change before you need to do something about it. But giving the circumstances, definitely call! They will probably let you know either way if you explain your position.

Opened my myithaca to find a message saying that my account was unavailable—not the ideal way to find a rejection, but still, it’s nice to know after nearly 4 months of nothing. Interesting process, I must say. Luckily, I am fortunate enough to have other fantastic choices.

My daughter was notified that she was not accepted into the acting program, but was accepted into the school. She needs to contact the school to see what other major she would be interested in. She has a great academic record and amazing volunteer work.

By the way for future kids, her IC peers account never deactivated and her major never changed from theater arts, acting, bfa. It is a strange process for sure.

Hi, no other areas of interest; she only had theatre arts, acting, and bfa listed in her majors. Her majors still say that on her IC Peers information under her application status, but it does not say accepted. We got an email today from one of the admission counselors for her to call them if she’s still interested in attending in another major.
I just realized this was the MT thread, sorry about that, but thought it still might be helpful to you all.

Thanks. It was helpful as I need to understand the rejection letter my D received last week. She only has theater arts in her major - thus I believe it was outright reject despite her outstanding academics and EC. She was accepted, though, in another college with great scholarship and grant.

Hi ParadiseMT that does seem strange because I would think academically your D would be accepted with her great academics - college admissions are so unpredictable.

But congrats on the other college and awards!

Well, at some schools it is possible that the admissions committee is interested in a student for whatever reason, so another major is offered. That is probably the reason her major did not change. The online status changes to another major the student is accepted to, or stays the same if accepted/denied to the only major of interest. Seeing that your daughter did not indicate another major, but the school was interested, they mentioned in the letter that you’d still be offered admissions at one of those options, but couldn’t change her status online because she did not indicate anything else.
Ithaca deactivates accounts of those definitely rejected after determining the letter should have arrived at its destination.
Those offered second/third majors still remain with their MyIthaca accounts, with a respective change in the major of interest, and later, a congratulations page.
Ithaca’s process is not as mysterious as it seems. If someone hasn’t had their account shut down, or received a letter, and the original major remains, there’s just no way of knowing and you’re in the limbo, though…

Turns out my mom didn’t want to show me the rejection until after I was done with my senior show haha! I guess she didn’t know about online though because I found out because my account disappeared. However, it was a very nice rejection letter, actually. It said thank you for your patience sorry for taking so long, we were reviewing your file and audition carefully, we regret that we cannot accept everyone that we take into consideration. So that was nice. One school I auditioned at basically said we don’t have room for you and you didn’t fit in with us, bye. Lol. Funny how some schools’ letters are so insensitive.

lalamusicmuse, so sorry to hear about your rejection! I’m sure you’ll get into other amazing schools though! BTW, do you know when your rejection was postmarked?

Hate to double post, but I’m unable to edit the last one for some reason; sorry guys! Anyhoo, I’m about to call Ithaca in a while, and I was wondering whether people who have called them have called the office of admissions or the theatre department! I’m planning to call the office of admissions but I could be wrong.
