Has anyone heard anything yet?

ICdramageeks - congrats to you!! I know you really really wanted this - from your username to your posts! I know it’s been an agonizing wait - and I’m very happy for you! My D is also accepted at Ithaca. I’d love to know why you think Ithaca is special/right for you? If you have other options or are waiting on other options - what do you feel is better or not as good as Ithaca in other programs. Feel free to PM me if you wish. Thanks - and congrats again!

blueskies1108 although my D is still waiting to hear from Ithaca I can tell you why their her MT program is her #1 or #2 choice and it comes down to the Utube. For each school my D has evaluated every school by their showcase, Ithaca is unusual in that they have a freshman showcase and the talent there is amazing. There is one young girl (can’t remember her name) that myD has even downloaded her songs on her iPhone. No sure reason for ICdramageeks. D just was put on wait list for Elon which was her other top so hopefully some positive news fromIthaca today would balance out this roller coaster process.

Sorry I didn’t reply earlier, guys! Thank you ALL so much! Unfortunately, I found out about it online. I actually had to call the Office of Admissions because I still haven’t gotten any later and my status had changed on 3/2. But when it arrives, I’ll try to remember to come back here and post what kind of envelope it was.
But then again, guys! I think one thing we all learned about Ithaca is that their process of admitting students in NOT one easy to predict. Everyone learns a different way, and maybe even different types of envelopes.
I think the only thing to be learned about this is that, you really can’t read into anything, and you never know until you receive that definite decision.

@blueskies1108. I’m not going to compare schools. But some of the things I really like about Ithaca is that, they’re mainly about acting. And their acting training is QUITE good. You can argue as much as you want that singing is the most important component, but acting is what makes us performers, and what keeps us interesting as people. You can maybe get a job because of your singing chops, but acting is what is going to take you from point A to point B, whilst keeping you employable and versatile. HOWEVER, there is no need to even have this discussion on Ithaca, because their Music department matches their Theater department. At Ithaca, singing and acting are BOTH amazing. Plus, MTs can also audition for plays beginning freshmen year. And the community of that ensemble seems like a very close-knit family, growing together in a NURTURING environment. And about what cda105 said. Ithaca struck me as unusual because the freshmen do all the work, if you take a look at those videos you’ll see that the person who arranged the songs is part of that group. They don’t care about having to show off for people, by getting the music director to arrange everything. They let the students do what they are supposed to: learn and grow. And one of the most important reasons I chose Ithaca is because they teach HONEST performers, genuine to their emotions.

I do have many other wonderful things to talk about Ithaca, it has been my top choice ever since I finished my list, and I do have other really generous offers, but I will stop here so I don’t make this post too long.

ICDramageeks, did you see a congratulations message online or did you call admissions to ask?

Just correcting a massive typo. I called because I still hadn’t gotten my letter! They apologized for the inconvenience and told me about my decision. I do NOT encourage anyone who’s status changed this past Thursday (3/8) to do the same, because a week is still within the normal period it takes to hear from them. From personal experience and from reading past posts, I can say that it can take up to 11-12 days for you to get accepted after your decision has been sent to admissions and your profile updated.

@fnpmom. I did see a Congratulations page. They tell you the day you’ve been accepted and there’s a message from the director of admissions, a video welcoming you to Ithaca and the normal myIthaca bar all organized in a few “tabs”.

Good luck to all of you who are still waiting, I hope to see you at Ithaca!

well my account is no longer available so i guess that’s a no :frowning: it stinks because ithaca was one of my favorite schools. however, congrats to those who got in!

out of limbo and into the abyss as well…

ICdramageeks, Congrats on your acceptance to Ithaca! My daughter is a very very
happy sophomore MT at IC and she would whole-heartedly agree with your observations of the wonderful acting foundation the program promotes as well as the very nurturing
environment. Best of luck to you in the coming years at Ithaca!

Hi, This is my first ever message on College Confidential. My daughter found out today that she was accepted to Ithaca. It popped up on Myithaca but only after my husband called to find out what was missing from her file.

nobusiness, What does your daughter think of the dance at Ithaca. My daughter is a very strong dancer and they didn’t even have a dance call so she is a little bit worried about that.

Should I call? I auditioned in December and I haven’t heard one word. My myithaca account is still working. I don’t know what to do?!?

Yes. You have nothing to lose by calling and given the amount of time that has passed, it certainly is reasonable to do so. Good luck!

It is pretty obvious from IC Peers that they have accepted as many students as they said they would into the MT and Acting programs. It is so painful for these kids to be holding on to a shred of hope when there really is none. I don’t understand why they don’t just let everyone know.

There were acceptances yesterday and will probably be a few more. But yeah, Ithaca’s process is a slow, painful trickle.

I don’t think Ithaca’s hitting the target number based on data on IC peers means they are done. If that were the measure, they would have stopped on 3/9 or 3/10 but they didn’t. Although this is no longer relevant for us here are some IC Peers stats that I kept because I too was expecting that hitting the magic number would signal the end. It didn’t. Writing it down on this thread mainly as a record for the people that apply next year to know for sure that it isn’t over until it is over:

acceptances in IC peers: (F=female, M=Male, ?=can’t tell by the IC Peers user name) note in all cases, there is also 1 M transfer accepted but I’m not counting that one.
3/6: 1 F, 7 M, 4 ? total = 12
3/7: 5 F, 8 M, 9 ? total = 22
3/9: 10 F, 10 M, 11? total = 31
3/11: 11 F, 11 M, 9 ? total = 31 (note it is possible that some of the ? changed their user name to something easier to identify vs. dropping out. Can’t know for sure. Changing your user name however is not straight forward so I think they dropped out.)
3/13: 13 F, 12 M, 7 ? total = 32
3/14: 13 F, 9 M, 7 ? total = 29

That is the last I saw as the account was disabled the next day. There is no way to know what the drop in numbers from the 13th to the 14th meant. People pulled their apps because they knew they were going elsewhere would be my best guess. I counted twice because I thought I had made a mistake. It was accurate.

They took in the 40’s last year. What’s the target number?

We were told that they accepted 32 to get a class of 16 for MT. As of today the count is 35 for MT and 43 for Acting. I’m ashamed to admit that I took the time to count but my kid is so stressed out because he is in limbo. He’d prefer to know one way or the other and move on. I feel pretty certain at this point that those left in the “applied” category are ultimately going to be rejected (and there are a lot of them) I don’t understand why they don’t let them know. My only thought is that, for my kid at least, he is academically at the top of Ithaca’s admission stats so maybe they are planning to offer him something other than an arts program.

This process has really made me think about whether or not I want to go to a school that is seemingly this disorganized. Applicants shouldn’t be kept waiting for months on end without hearing anything from the department—at least they could send out a deferral letter.

@fnpmom. I’m also ashamed to admit that I counted. It’s hard not to when the data is there and the kids are anxious.

I believe the only way you could be offered something other than the arts program is to have indicated that you were open to another major on your application. My daughter is also at the top of the admissions stats but she limited her interest to their BFA program. Although the official rejection has not come, I’m certain it is on the way.

@qjo2882. I don’t think Ithaca is disorganized. What they are is transparent. Because of the strange way the IC Peers works, you can actually watch this go down step by step. You have no way to know what goes on in any other school’s admissions cycle because there isn’t an application that lets you have a peak and or some of them do not have rolling admissions. It is the only school that I’ve heard of that offers this level of tranparency.

If he applied for 2nd or 3rd choice majors and is academically in good shape he could easily get them and just being a boy greatly increases his odds at everything. His status will change, eventually. We counted last year too but the numbers kept climbing long after we thought it was done. Hang in there and good luck! Ithaca is a great program. Congrats to those accepted.
