Has anyone heard anything yet?

Well, Brrruno, you don't know that for sure. I honestly can't imagine that Ithaca WON'T make some sort of accommodation for notifying you in a more timely fashion. I wonder what would happen if you e-mailed the folks in the drama department and explained your situation?

If Ithaca doesn't come through, are you going to try again next year (with a few more schools)?

That's what they told me in a one line email when I explained my situation to them: "We posted it on March 14th". So I take it as a "no, we don't care if the mail time is tripled to get to you in comparison with everyone else".

And I don't know if I'm going to try again, I'm 21 and life is kinda tough here in Brazil... I'll just have to pick something I hate to do and I have to decide it quickly otherwise I won't find a job or have a career... they don't understand that... I'll call them on Monday... I need to know their decision soon so I can have time to take some action here. I guess with their "no" MT doors close for me, i was born in the wrong place to want MT as a career lol but you guys got to keep trying, no matter how many "no's" you hear!!!

as soon as I know it for sure I'll post it here =)

If you're really passionate about going into Musical Theater, don't give up just because a school doesn't accept you. I'm sure there's more to that in your situation, but don't settle for a career you are going to hate when you could audition next year for other schools.
Best of luck, I'll keep my fingers crossed

Since you only applied to one school, and a very selective one at that, you'd have had to have been really lucky to have gotten in for MT. And, you auditioned via videotape, right? They NEVER showcase skills in the way an in-person audition does. Finally, you're young (believe it or not!). Many "kids" in these actor-training programs have some experience beyond high school before they enroll. What about one of the schools that do not rely so much on audition, say Columbia College Chicago? Regroup and try again. You'll regret it if you don't. Good luck!

Not all schools are welcoming to international students (now matter how hard some try to pass that "happy international student" impression). I don't feel old at 21, but while I may not be old to keep trying schools in the U.S., here I'll be old to start a career after trying that too much, believe me. So in my case there's a clock ticking. Too early to decide if I'm trying that again, I have to think my now.

Accepted to the BA in Drama.

Rejected for MT.

..I'm almost certain I'll be accepting it.

well! gratz!
I would accept that =)

any new news anyone?
my D's "audition" is still not received on myithaca.
i'm not feeling positive vibes at this point, but that could just be because I need my late afternoon cup of coffee!

sualabama, have you actually called Ithaca's admissions office to make certain that they know she auditioned? It might be worth a call. I feel sure that they do know and the myIthaca thingie has probably just not been updated, but it never hurts to check.

Thanks, NMR! I called them on the 19th and although they didn't actually look at my kid's specifically, when I asked about myithaca "audition not received", she was quick to answer that is normal at this point and not all files have been updated. I'll just wait. I don't want to irritate an admissions counselor at this point! If it turns out her file was lost, I think that will become eveident after the 1st week in April. Don't you?

I heard today. I didn't get into MT or acting but I did get into their law studies program. I'm thinking about accepting it and then reapplying to MT next year. thoughts?

got my official reject today...
as i had posted before... expecting it... so

Sualabama-my S is in the same boat and we got the same message.

Brrruno, I am so sorry. I've read your posts, and I know you feel like this was your one shot at it. I hope you are able to regroup and figure out a way to make musical theatre work for you in some way. Best of luck!

erroberts, sorry about your outcome at Ithaca, although congrats on the acceptance to the college itself. I think going to a college where you have not been admitted for MT with hopes that you can get into the MT program next year is not always the best path as it often is a very slim chance of that happening. I think you could pick a school to attend next year among the schools you were accepted to and where you can still be involved in theater in some capacity or take a gap year and train and reaudition for a myriad of MT programs next year.

Brrruno, I am sorry to hear of your result at Ithaca as I know you wanted to go there. I have to say that while the odds are slim for everyone in this process, your odds were even slimmer because you only applied to ONE program (and by video). The admit rate is so low at these programs that statistically speaking, even if you have the requisite skills to get in, the odds of getting accepted if applying to just one school are very very small. Everyone needs more than one school to stand a chance of a positive outcome. I don't know anything about you or your skills but if you truly wish to attend college in America and to study MT, I think you could take a gap year and hone your skills and create a well balanced longer list of BOTH audition and NON audition schools in the US. It would be beneficial if you can get here to audition at Unifieds (one shot trip to audition at several schools), AND you truly should consider the many FANTASTIC NON-Audition BA schools in the US where you can study and train in theater and that have many MT opportunities. A BFA is not the only way. Best wishes to you as you plan your next steps.

tnx for the help...
I'll leave the forums now.

Brruno, let me add my voice to the chorus saying we are sorry to hear that it did not work out as you had hoped. But not getting into one school doesn't have to be the end of your dream. You have the option of several alternate routes (outlined clearly above by soozie and others) to the same destination. Still, I am really sorry it did not happen. Hugs to you.

Brrruno - adding some (((cyberhugs))) as well. Like everyone else has already written, there are so may ways to reach your goals. Keep pursuing your dreams!

Brruno - there are still some schools out there that are taking applications. I had a list put together for my daughter. Some are not requiring auditions. Almost every school in the US has a theater major - so I would try to get over and then transfer the next year to a school that has a better MT program. If you find a good one, let me know, because my daughter is probably going to end up in the same boat as you.

P.S. - Ithaca answered me about my D's displaced application and told us they emailed us several times, which wasn't true because I checked her email, so I am still mad at them anyway. They gave us some random email address with xx's in it that they had. Who has an email with xx's in it. Not to discount anyone who did make it in, because getting in anywhere is a major accomplishment.

Brruno - One other thought for you....Berklee College in Boston has a large international presence. Its solely music performance oriented - but they love the diversity. I would try talking to them. My D may audition for the Spring 09 entry which is auditioning shortly.
