Has anyone heard from Carnegie Mellon yet?

@danralph77 My S attends CMU

@Inspired59 do you know what they’re calling for?

@danralph77 Not sure at this time… Sorry

@Inspired59 okay, thank you so much for the updates, let us know if you know anything at all

Hello, does anyone know how many acting majors have been called? Or if they’re done?

I assume anyone getting a call already has?

A MT kid got the call last night so that was a tiny bit of hope that calls are still going out.

Boy or girl if uk?

@bwaygirl1

I think it is a boy @EIS0301, what are you?

@Inspired59 I read somewhere (from a “reliable” source) that not all accepted students get a call. That it just might be reflected on the portal. This wouldn’t make sense to me, but much of the college audition process doesn’t HA! Anyway, have you heard this to be the case? Also, do they still have a regular WL and a Priority WL? (My D was there almost 3 hours for her audition, and was moved into all 5 audition rooms! I think she thought she had a chance, but alas…)

The waitlist letters show up in the portals. For MT it’s all the same really. You receive notification that you have been waitlisted, then they ask you to respond if you would like to remain on the priority WL. The good news is, you receive a financial package, so you have the information to make a decision if a spot opens up. I think they accepted 7 boys and 5 girls last year. We knew of 3 other PWL girls, and I’m pretty sure all 5 who received original offers accepted.

@DrowsyChaperone my friend was accepted into the program and said that all 24 drama kids were in the group chat so I believe that this year kids will not be accepted via portal if they did not receive a phone call.

Be warned… casting typically could careless that you have a BFA or where its from!! Seriously! It’s sooooo overwhelmingly competitive out there that Broadway actors are taking regional jobs, which causes non-eqs to get nothing or very low pay jobs-we call those “shit shows!!” Save your money, and take some theater classes from a community college or state school. My daughter graduated from one of the best theater schools in the nation, and can’t even secure an agent. Again, most casting does not care about the school you’re from. It makes no difference!!

@Kristi06 i would have to somewhat disagree - huge name theatre schools or even schools in a location/with industry connections (ie cmu v ucla v emerson) provide students with TONS of connections and opportunities - i have a friend who’s graduating cmu (mt) this year, and he’s already gotten broadway and new york city auditions through events like the cmu showcases in nyc / la. of course, talent and ability are the two most deciding factors, but there a ton of benefits to colleges likes cmu.

It may get your foot in the door here and there, but when it comes to booking a professional job the school you went to doesn’t matter!!

@kb23345 Because he is a male!!! Women have 5 times the competition than men do, AND there are more roles written for men as well.

Reviving this thread …

Any idea when 2018 acceptance calls will start going out?

In a couple of weeks. Calls will happen mid-March.

Rejections and some acceptances have gone out today
