New wave as is more that the forms book and information book? If it's just that, it didn't come as soon as they said it would for me either.
-Katie

It took them about 3 weeks to send me the booklets after we sent our acceptance, and we still have not received our invoice!

By the way, after spending literally hours reading this ENTIRE thread, I'm happy to report that the admissions office is much faster than before. I'm so sorry to all of you who had to wait forever. That must have been unbareable. They recieved my application with no problems, it was overnighted and recieved with everything. There computer files are updated much faster. And they get to everything much quicker.

However, they seem to still have a problem sending out information. My parents really need to start making travel arrangements, etc, but we need all of the info before doing that. It's kind of a pain, but I'll live.

Thanks to the mothers for their weekly reports from last summer, they were the most helpful thing on this entire thread. And also thank you so much to former students for answering all of our questions. I will definely do the same for the next batch of kids next year. I also posted the link to this thread on the new myspace group that was created for this year's new kids. Hopefully the spread of information and discussion will help everyone calm their nerves (did I mention that I'm not nearly as nervous as everyone else seems to be? I'm cool as a cucumber!)

Thanks Everyone!

I'm glad you found the postings helpful. I went back and re-read some of them and got nostalgic. Those going this summer have much to look forward to.

im sorry if this has already been asked, but does anyone know if theres a discussion board of just MT kids or Drama kids going to the camp this summer so we can get to know each other?

Many of the students have been chatting via myspace at

OK a really dumb question. I have all the linens and they dont fit anywhere! How are people packing alll the nonclothing items?
I am buying the fans there and will probably just leave them

We mailed a huge box of linens, fan, etc. to my sisters house in PA. What you could do is mail everything to CMU except the sheets and pack those in your suitcase. The mail room at CMU isn't open until Monday.

Or, another thought is to get those plastic bags that you vacuum out the air. They sell them at Walgreen's and lots of places. Once the air is sucked out, everything inside is very flat.

I ended up buying a HUGE duffel ag and packing them in there with the fan. Interesting to see what happens in baggage claim! Looking forward to meeting all of you

You too! Safe travels everyone! See you in Pittsburgh.

Can't wait to meet everyone! Leaving tomorrow for Pittsburgh and Thursday night is Grease at the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera! So excited! Can't wait to hear eveyone's stories!

Well other than the hot dorms my D seems to be having a great time! Lots of work, fun people. Anyone else have reports?

I had to go back and read last years posts because I'm not getting enough time during phone calls to get anything but short basic communication. Pretty much, "I'm busy. I love you" etc...

Elliotsmom, tell your husband that if we can measure "our money's worth" by how busy the kids are it probably works out to be a bargain. I am hoping for a nice long phone chat tomorrow so I'll report then.

Well, misery likes company... I am glad to hear that I am not the only parent whose Pre-college kid doesn't have time to talk on the phone during the week. I realize that we are in Pacific Standard Time and the kids are in Eastern Standard Time, so that doesn't help the situation.

So my D tells me everyone's parents are going to the parent weekend.I wasn't planning on it because it is a long schlep from L. A...Anyone else NOT going?

my parents didn't come up that weekend and neither did one of my best friend's parents.....but we ended up having a crazy fun weekend. actually it was the same weekend harry potter came out haha...........while your daughter might think everyone's parents are coming, there really were plenty who didn't come and your daughter can have fun being an "orphan" hehe.....obviously i can't speak for this year, but i know you could def find the people who were "orphans'...." and if she really is one of the few, i'm sure her friend's parents will bemore than happy to let her tag along with that family!

good to know.I would love to come but it is a hard trip for a weekend though my d may guilt me into it

I don't think we'll be going to Family Weekend, unless our D really wants us there. A trip from coast to coast for the weekend is hard to justify; especially when my husband and I have to be at the office the following Monday. I better check and see if her roommate's family are attending, they are from LA.
We'll be taking 10 days at the end of Pre-College to drive and visit the schools my D wants to see in the east coast.

Question - any of your kids looking at a BA in Theatre instead of BFA? My daughter would like to double major and BFA's don't allow extra time for a second major.
Any ideas for schools with a good BA in Theatre and also good programs in English/Communications/Business? D can't decide what to do. She loves English (Literature and Writing), likes the idea of combining Theatre with a Business (Management or Advertising) and thinks Communications would also be a good combination. She likes the East coast and wants an urban school or a reasonable commuting distance to a city. I guess this depends on transportation. Rural schools are definitely out.

We won't be going to the W/E either. My sister and neice from northeastern PA are standing in for us.
