Presuming all the calls have been made by CMU for BFA MT and BFA Acting, does anyone know how CMU handles wait list or rejection notices? I have heard they only ever have a short wait list and rarely have to go to it, but wondering how this is handled. Are rejection letters mailed, emailed, updated online? Just curious. Anyone notified about being on the wait list?

Don’t be too quick. Looking at the lists of kids that have been offered admission, there are no listings for CM. Of course, not everybody posts on this forum, but I would think someone might. They may have contacted a few kids, but maybe not all. They will be mailing out letters on Friday the 23rd, and I believe the website will post status updates early the following week. Its not over till its over!

They have sent out all calls to accepted students.

In terms of the waitlist, they do keep a small list and those on it will be informed, i’m not sure if they have informed any waitlisters, just that all calls have been made. They only go to the waitlist in very rare cases, though students getting off of it is totally possible. It depends on how many numbers accept us back determines the waitlist.

Rejections will be mailed and updated online to, though I don’t know of their exact date.

My daughter called admissions today and they said letters are being mailed on Friday, and it will be updated online on Tues.

My daughter was put on the priority waitlist online same time or shortly after the calls were made.

My D could no longer access her portal. Another rejection letter on the way :’(

@paradiseMT- If she could not log on this morning, don’t worry! I am already accepted and I cannot log on either. I think they may have them down in order to work on some financial aid things!

@x101steph8 - Thanks and congratulations! Were you accepted for MT or Acting. Did you receive a call from CMU like the others who have been accepted as posted here?

I’m becoming paranoid as we experienced the same portal down with another college. Will just wait for the letter. D also just realized she still have to submit some FA documents.

CarnegieMT2012, the year when you were admitted, was anyone taken off of the waitlist and admitted? What about the last 3 years?

So if I understand this thread… its positive that all CALLS have been made for MT and that if we didn’t get a call that a letter may come putting us on a wait list??

We are going to have some decisions to make here very soon after all the financial aid packages come in. From reading these boards, it appears that parents will sometimes call admissions to get the status of their child as well as an idea of when things will be mailed. Do you feel it is appropriate to make these calls to admissions? Specifically CCM (still on hold) and CMU (hoping for a priority wait list). It seems reasonable to me.

I don’t think the schools will tell you the results on the phone or any sooner than their time frame. They may tell you when you will find out at most. But you truly do NOT have to make a college decision until the National Reply Date of May 1. Your spot cannot be taken away until after that date. At that time you will have to put down a deposit on one school. Many wait lists are not utilized until AFTER May 1 when commitments are due. IF your child gets off a wait list AFTER May 1 and wants to attend the wait list school, she/he can but would then forfeit the deposit at the original school.

@ready4march- we did not accept anyone off the waitlist that year. But I think that’s the first year in a long time that that has happened. There are kids from the WL in both Junior, Sophomore, and Freshman classes at the moment. So don’t lose heart. Depending upon how many acceptances they get back will determine the use of the waitlist.

@dramafreak- yes, all the initial calls have been made.

According to my online status, I’ve been waitlisted for MT (and Acting). Students who seriously aim to get top-knotch training, don’t usually reject CMU acceptances. Not that I believe it’s a better program but, for my sake, I’m hoping some accepted kid has also been accepted to Tisch or something non-tragic so that I may have his spot. Any more Waitlisters?

Waitlisted!

D was Not Accepted per online status :(

“priority” wait list, whatever than means. No scholarship information, so really can’t even make an informed decision. D not upset since she has several other wonderful options.

@Kaisdad, it is my understanding that all Priority Wait List students will receive their full scholarship info well before the May 1 deadline because in order to remain on the PWL, they have to sign a commitment to attend if accepted off the wait list, and CMU knows that you can’t make a commitment like that until you know whether you can afford it.

Thanks Tracyvp. That makes a little more sense. We can’t committ or make a decision without the possible financial aid information. We’ll keep monitoring the website to see if the financial aid decision gets posted. I was under the impression that it was concurrent with the admission decision.

They are asking for a PWL decision from us by April 13th, and won’t inform us of a decision until May 8th

tracy is correct…my D got the PWL in her year and she received a financial aid package in the mail around the time she got the notice of the PWL status. This is done because if offered a spot off the wait list in May, you have to commit within 48 hours with a deposit and so you already will have your FA package in hand.

Congrats to those above who made it this far and at the very least, it is a nice affirmation.
