Has anyone heard from CMU pre-college yet?

I'm not attending either. My D and I agreed that it was all I could do to scrape together the tuition/travel money for her! Honestly, I think she is enjoying "college life" so much that she's not going to miss me too much ;-)

WE are attending and I feel a little like I will be intruding on her new life. She seems like a duck in water... a very happy duck!

What schools are you going to see after CMU??

The schools we are planning to visit after CMU are: Penn State, Drexel U, Boston U, Emerson, Ithaca, Syracuse U and possibly U of Virginia.
We visited Kenyon and U of Pitts Honors College before CMU. Kenyon is very nice but the location is very rural, so Kenyon is out of our list. I am not sure about U of Pitts, I was not impressed with the Honors college or the Cathedral of Learning (that building is so dark.) We have scheduled a full day visit on Aug 5th and we'll attend, in spite of my reservations.
I think USC is the best match for my D, but she wants to go to the east coast... I am not familiar with the schools in the east coast. We don't qualify for need aid and can't afford full Ivy tuition. My D qualifies for merit aid, so we would like to take advantage of some merit aid.

Back to CMU Pre-College Parent's weekend - I would like to hear from parents who attended last year... how was the weekend? Did you notice a change in the kids already? How were the performances and trips? Thank you for sharing your experience.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=47705&page=10&pp=15 I cant figure out how to show the link, but go to page 10 of this thread, to post number 147 for a report of my visit to parent weekend last summer. It was fun, though many parents didn't attend.
Carole

Thank you Carole for sharing your experience. I talked with my D and she says her friend's Mom is going to adopt her and her roommate during Family weekend. I guess neither of us are planning to attend. D sounds pretty happy and not concerned at all if you are not there that weekend.

You're very welcome! This summer is much more relaxed for us. My S is working, hosting in a restaurant, he just played in the pit for a community theatre show (he said his understanding of a musical is very different after working with a conductor!), he is getting ready to produce a play later this summer, (he started a small company last summer when the local theatre he usually works with took the summer off), and getting ready for college. He starts at CCM in mid September.

The past year flew by! It was stressful, but CMU gave him so much info about the process, and the pre-college experience showed him that he is ready for college. He also found so much support from CMU kids at all his auditions, having friends to share everything with was great! He is chomping at the bit and all ready to go!

The weeks will pass before you know it, and she will be home!

Carole

Carole, Congratulations to you and your son. Looks like he is well on his way. How great it is to see the kids growing up and taking charge of their lives and pursuits. Best wishes to him!

MotherMoo - I think you should look at Point Park for your daughter while in Pittsburgh. It is a city school and offers a BA theatre that can be combined with another major or at least a minor. I know some kids combine it with business. They have both a BA and BFA, but I think many of the classes they take are the same. The BFA majors are probably too busy to add another major. We know a very successful recent BFA MT graduate from there.

MotherMoo - I forget to mention that, while we didn't look at many of the schools on your list, we did go to Ithaca a couple of times. It is a quaint college town, but I would consider it very rural. It's hard to imagine being more rural than driving an hour from a major airport or flying into town on a prop plane!

I looked over this thread from last year at this time and it seems that no one (no matter how early he or she applied) heard from CMU as to acceptances for their summer precollege program in drama/MT until the first week of April. I am guessing it will be the same this year, though the school Web site said people will begin hearing the first week in March. Sigh. ;) If anyone does hear, please post.

Hi NMR! This is just the beginning of the practice run for next year! Believe me I learned as much as my d did from the pre college process. Last year the waiting seemed endless but this year it has been excrutiating at times!

My daughter sent in her application stuff to the CMU pre-college program in early February, and she hasn't heard back yet. I have no doubt that, as evasmom says, from now on (even more so than up to present), this is going to be an excruciating process!

I totally agree with both of evasmom and boulderdad ... just waiting to hear from the CMU precollege summer program is hard enough; makes me wonder how we will hold up next year when it's the REAL thing (and I ain't talking about Coca Cola! :)) My D got her precollege application in to CMU in mid-January, figuring they would begin sending out decisions in early March. As you all know, that didn't happen. My guess is that they will begin notifying applicants on a rolling basis in early April, just as they did last year. Of course, this is nothing compared to the tension and angst being experienced by those of you whose kids are awaiting real college admission decisions. Bravo to all of you for keeping such amazingly good attitudes. You all will be my role models for next year .....

After reading all of these posts over the past two hours, you guys are incredible. Not that I would ever give such amazing details to my mothers about my summer, but you guys have given me all the information I need if I get accepted. Of course, I'm still waiting, but tomorrow my mother will start that wonderful process you all have gone through and is calling CMU to find out the status of my application.
Thanks to everyone and I'll keep you updated.

Feel free to send me messages or post here if you have questions for any students that attended last year. I was an acting option student, but I was friends with many MTs as well. I am on this website a lot (due to the fact that I am applying for colleges next year) so I'll check back frequently.

I just got my admittance letter to CMU's pre-college MT program! (I applied in mid-Feburary for all who are wondering.) I was wondering if anyone else has gotten their letter yet?

i did! I'm sure there will be many more people by the end of the week!

I got my letter/packet/half-a-tree, too! Yay for Musical Theatre peoples!
