I was looking online. Im african american with a 3.0 gpa. I like that the school is 15 minutes away from richmond and the school is small. I don't think that I'd get into the bigger schools in va so im looking at private ones. Does anyone know anything about randolph macon?

On the surface, it looks like a very nice place. There’s an Amtrak station right on campus (which is how I know about the place) and from what I’ve seen it is a very well-manicured campus with a quiet southern charm about it. It’s often confused with a former women’s college in Lynchburg with a similar name and history, but, that affiliation ended quite a while ago. Both colleges are now co-ed, but I think Randoph-Macon may be a little bigger than the other one. And, not only is it close to Richmond, but it’s not that far from Washington, D.C. either.

Randolph College (now coed former RMWC) in Lynchburg would also be worth a look as would Lynchburg College.

I actually live in lynchburg, and I want to move further away.

It is small but it’s suppose to be an “up and coming” liberal arts school. They offer good financial aid and the campus is suppose to be very friendly. I’d say go visit it in person if you can and go during the week to get a good feel of what real college life there would be like.

One other school that I urge you to look at is Guilford College in NC. Smaller liberal arts college (quaker heritage) with great diversity and it’s listed in Lauren Pope’s book Colleges that Change Lives. It’s small but a bigger pop. than Randolph-Macon. May be worth looking at too if you can go.

OK, where in town do you live? I also live there some.

A friend’s grandson is a freshman at Randolph-Macon. So far he is very happy there.
He turned down Elon for R-MC.

Look very closely at Bridgewater College, Hollins University and Sweet Briar. Roanoke College is also a very good school.

Bridgewater gives scholarships for people above 3.0 gpa. Its a wonderful little school, very, very friendly and very pretty campus. Lovely people.

i went to randolph macon and I really didn’t like it. I liked mary washington but I don’t know if I have good enough stats. Longwood was okay. and vcu was horrible. I’d like to be somewhere nice and urban but not richmond urban.

If you’ve already visited Mary Washington and you like it, I’d definitely apply.
