I know this is a preposterous question to ask on CC, but I'm curious. I'm probably going to fail my calculus class unless I ace this last exam on Tuesday and the final. Woohoo for falling even more behind in my degree progress... :/

You answered it yourself. The kind of people who come here aren’t likely to fail a class. I’ve never even gotten below a C on any given assignment, and I’m far from the most ridiculous poster on CC.

I failed Gen Chem 1 last year. Looking back, it was a combination of not enough effort on my part and that fact that my professor didn’t speak English. I was able to retake it and got an A- the second time around. I would have fallen behind on my degree (i also dropped Calc 2 spring semester last year) but I was able to take a summer class and will be doing so again this year. I also placed into the advanced writing seminar, so i only had to take one semester of English instead of two.

I got a D in calc in high school (5 on the ap test -.-). But no, not in uni. At least in uni you can retake it. Can you take it in the summer when you have less on your plate?

I had a weird situation with a math class freshman year- it was an experimental class (wasn’t told that when I registered) and the program glitched. Most of us didn’t finish…I didn’t necessarily fail, but I got an NP (like 3/4 of the rest of the class). Retaking it this semester and making an A. Hope it doesn’t mess up transfer chances too much:/

Due to some mental health issues during the spring of freshman year, my son should have failed 3 classes. As it turns out, he ended up with a W, F, and D (plus an A and 2 B’s).

We turned cartwheels seeing that D. A full-fledged D! Not a measly D- or the F he was expecting.

Sometimes it takes a period of hardship and desparation to find joy in the littlest victories.

I got a D in material and energy balances, but the professor explicitly told us he was trying to weed out as many people as possible and more people got Fs than Ds (at least half the class failed or withdrew- I didn’t because it would have put me below 12 credits, taking away my financial aid). I’m sad because I was really close to the border of a C- (he doesn’t give Ds), but at the same time that class was crazy. I studied harder for that class (about 30 hours per week) than I have for most of my A’s… I’d retake it but I don’t want to do that while I’m writing my thesis.

Haven’t come close to failing at uni.
A fail is usually the result of some disaster though…

I got some Ds in school, for Theology (no surprise) and History (big shock).

I failed a math class and withdrew from a spanish class to avoid failing. Still graduated and got a good job. In fact, both of those were before I transferred to umich, and umich still took me. No harm done.
