Has anyone here had a legitimately low GPA & still got into college?

By legitimately low, I mean actual low GPA's (as I've come to notice that a low GPA on here and what I've always thought as a low GPA are completely different.) Obviously I know someone with a cumulative GPA of 1.8 isn't going to get into college without going through community college first, what I'm looking for is students who have a GPA falling between 2.6 to 3.3 ish range.

For anyone who wants to know why I'm curious, it's simply because I'd like to see if there is anyone who was in the same boat as myself (which was terrible grades for the first year and a half of school, then a drastic rising trend and great SAT & ACT scores & anxiously debating whether I should go to CC or try and apply to a state school), yet was able to go straight to college without going to a CC first. (For anyone who is curious, here is the thread I started concerning my grade situation: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1162868-should-i-bother-applying-college-these-grades.html )

I doubt that there are many, however I have run into one or two other users who are now attending the school I want to apply to that have similar, if not exact scores and grades and had a similar experience as I did with a rocky start. I just need some sort of encouragement, which I'd get from knowing that a bad start doesn't always mean a terrible ending as well, you know? If you're one of the students I'm wishing to hear from, here is just some basic info I'd like to get:

GPA (Weighted and Unweighted)
SAT and/or ACT
Any ECs
Schools you applied to (& which ones accepted or rejected you)
School you are now attending/attended/planning on attending this coming Fall
+ any other details you'd like to include (I'd love to hear about your own difficult situations or stories )

I look forward to hopefully receiving some answers & thank you in advance!

Edit: You don't have to reply to this thread, by the way. I don't mind if you message it to me like another user has done!

Yes, there have been people who had low GPAs in high school who got into college. Trivial examples include many students who go to open admission community colleges. Some do well there and transfer to highly regarded four year state universities to complete their bachelor’s degrees.

For those who want to go directly to a four year school, there are many non-flagship state universities that will admit the student with a ~3.0 GPA in high school.

There are a whole bunch of threads on this in the Parents Forum. Scroll through that forum and look for titles like “Where did your 2.8 kid get in”.

A quick search using the College Board’s College MatchMaker turns up 176 four-year colleges that report that 50% or more of their accepted students have GPAs of 3.0 and below.
