Has anyone here scored lower than 1460 on the SAT?

That was meant to be encouraging. I didn’t say HE was one.

My point was that it won’t be hard for him to raise his score a few hundred points easily. All the stuff on the SAT is common sense, and if he got a 1460 it was probably just a fluke, especially since he clearly works hard. If he does a prep book or two he can get over 1,800.

Ahh thanks for the advice Eagle and Saugus. I do not mind rudeness I take it as a wake up call about how bad my scores are and how much I need to imrpove them.

^jacecain~ from the SAT I took yesterday I felt I had most trouble with the reading portion. The writing was the easiest by far, the math wasn’t too bad but I think the reading will be what kills me. Probably firstly would be the vocabulary. I don’t read books and I know that’s the biggest reason I am struggling in that category. I don’t know if I have some sort of dissability like ADD or if I am just stupid but in english class I can have a multiple choice test over a ten page chapter of a book and fail it with a 20 even after reading that chapter four times. No methods seemed to have work for reading books and doing well on tests over them and I have tried a lot of different strategies. The reading itself is fine but I can’t comprehend. The SAT reading with the passage with me while I am taking the test is an easier format than these tests in english class. I try to break up the reading during the SAT and not read the passage all at once.

Math should be a simple 650-700 with easy to medium questions + NO STUPID MISTAKES from what I have heard.
Writing is a joke, I believe anyone can get a 700 without trying and just memorize some grammar rules. You can even BS your way to a 10 essay (assuming only if you can do it).
Reading is tough, but isn’t tough to me anymore. I think I can jump from a 460 to somewhere in the 600s at least. 700 would be a high reach for me, it’s hard.

SadHippo - GET DIRECT HITS 1 & 2 FOR VOCABULARY WORDS!!

Reading passages - Skim through the passage since time is limited, underline some details that you know is important in the passage(s). Tell whether the passages are positive or negative about the topics and ideas discussed. I recommend you to put a + or - sign. Answer the questions that only PERTAIN to that paragraph; don’t just read the lines before and after.

A common misconception is that reading books will help improve your vocabulary.

It really won’t. Buy a book like WordSmart and do 100 words a day. I know it sounds like a lot, but if you read all of the examples used, it’s easy to remember.

Eh, I think books have significantly improved/built my vocabulary and helped me on the CR section. It’s a gradual process though, which is why it is futile to suddenly start reading books two months before the test.

I second DirectHits for vocab (will help your CR). The only thing I can say is: practice. Buy or borrow CollegeBoard’s official book and go through the practice tests under SAT conditions. Time yourself. Then go back to review your answers and try to understand why you got the question wrong.

Math and writing are coachable. Most people can get to 700+ through practice, exposure, and memorization. But CR is a lot less manageable; I would just read a lot of SAT passages and memorize vocab.

Eh, I pretty much now find the reading section to be easier than the math. =/
When at previous times, I found the math to be easier than the reading.

I got a 1210 out of 1600.

For vocabulary just use Direct Hits. I’ve missed 1 SC in the two actual SATs I’ve taken (January & March).

you kids really really study for the sat i didnt

Read Calvin and Hobbes. No joke. That’s how I knew what “chagrin” meant.

^hahaha. Calvin does have some big words for a six year old. And so does Hobbes; quite impressive for a tiger.

I knew what chagrin was because of this website  Someone’s mother used in it the parents forum when I was doing some creeping, and I looked up what it meant :)

OHHHH out of 2400…then probably not too many. I got a 1460 out of 1600.
One of my good friends got a 1450 out of 2400 though!

CHAGRIN!! I got that out of Twilight. That, and “sparkling”.

I knew the definition of chagrin, thanks to my fluency in French ;)
