Has anyone not recieved a financial aid package?

I haven’t received the acceptance packet either. Does the financial aid come in the same packet?

schindlr…no, finaid comes later. Merit comes with acceptance packet.

kcreative…did you get an email stating that your file had been completed? I still have “no award” listed but was told they were still going through my file (this was last Thursday).

why does gwu have to be so complicated. just let us know if we’re getting any money and if so how much! isn’t it so simple that way?

what you’ll learn about GW is that nothing is simple. Lots of redtape.

There is a lot of red tape almost everywhere. If you think this is bad, go to East Carolina University. Ugh.

nbg127…I was told that if my S were receiving any merit money than those funds would have been posted on line the very day that he was accepted at GWU. Some kids did get in and they got merit money that day.

In our case, it must be an accept/deny scenario because unless you are very wealthy how could anyone pay $55K outright with NO assistance. My S is one of three kids and like others in this economy our small business is now struggling with employee layoffs and salary cuts. I was told I could go through the red tape and protest the school’s decision, but…forget it. There is enough to worry about in our lives right now.

…still no package. :(

but all of my documents have been updated to “reviewed and satisfied” under the document tracker. and i cant view any of the financial aid tabs anymore…

weird. o.O

kcreative-thanks very helpful. My parents are small business owners too. We are kind of in the same situation with Northeastern offering merit but not GW. There are “need based” scholarships though and even though our EFC is high, it doesn’t cover cost of attending so I am hoping for something besides loans.

After being told Monday that a decision had been made and the notice on Financial aid was in the mail I called Financial Aid again since nothing came in today’s mail. Also the GWEB contains no information. The person I spoke to today placed me on hold for quite awhile while she investigated. She said she confirmed that my son’s file was still “in review” and that GW had not made a decision either way and that I should hear something next week.
This is so hard - the not knowing - the switching between being hopeful and pessimistic about the outcome.

kcreative - just reread your answer to me and wondering if you checked the GWeb account for a final status? It seems many of us that haven’t received finaid yet are being told different things. (see inuk just above). My page states that they are still reviewing finaid and I have called and verified this. I wonder if they are trying to see if there will be any “left over” for borderline cases?

Schools are really funny this year. I received 0 from AU which did surprise me a bit as I received a nice scholarship from Northeastern…just can’t tell anymore.

I just got an email asking me to view my award on Gweb but after logging in it stated no award information at this time - anyone else have this problem?

nbg127…My S has decided on AU. We paid the deposit last night on line. He was ready to move on and leave GWU behind. Both of us are so irritated with the process, which I think we all may agree has been odd for many. I think likely because of the economy. My S was never hot for one school in particular. He is wise to our financial situation and played it cool and responsibly. He is very considerate of not putting his ole’ folks into too much debt, especially now. As I mentioned, my S got a $27K President’s Award from AU. We are grateful. And so we decided to “take the money and run!” Good luck to you. Let me know how things turn out.

yes i have the same problem i got an emial saying to check online and there was nothing…does this mean we got nothing arghhhhh this is ridiculous! just tell us already

i emailed the fin aid office already once and they gave me like a one line reply - you will hear back before may 1st, ughhh

same here. =</p>

Does anyone know the process for appeals (or if it is even possible) b/c i definitely can’t go to gw on 4k in grants when our efc is 22k (seriously is this like the worst package possible - i have to pay 28,000 over the fafsa estimate)

I also had a $22000 EFC and got just a $4000 loan. What a joke.

i was shocked i’ve gotten way better packages from schools that aren’t known for their financial aid; kinda sucks cause i really wanted to go
Ipacho are you planning on appealing?

Well, I called today and they told me to send in my final tax returns (which we just finished this week) and they would recalculate my aid. I also got the presidential arts scholarship, but that still doesn’t add up even close to my supposed need. If after they recalculate it the number is still too small, I will absolutely challenge. I’ve gotten better aid from other schools, but I will find a way to go to GW.

pfft i emailed because i am still yet to receive anything (im an international) but their reply was we can’t answer your question, call this number or email that address.

forget it, i can’t possibly attend school thats this hard to obtain a simple info.
