Congrats to those who made it! Do you mind noting whether your SAT score was similar to your PSAT?
Has anyone in Alabama received a letter yet?
I’m at a school in Mobile, Alabama and my friend and I got our letters at home today.
My SAT was exactly what the PSAT predicted
My DS letter came in the mail today that he is a National Achievement Finalist and they announced it at school today also.
I got my acceptance letter today, my sat score was pretty similar to my psat score and I have a few semester Cs
@Prospitfox So glad you made NAF! I think that if you still want to go to WSU, that full-ride scholarship is open to NAFs as well as NMFs.
Every college my son has looked at had the exact same offers for Achievement and Merit.
Received a letter that my D is a NAF. Came as a surprised because we knew more about the NMF process than we knew about the NAF process.
@Prospitfox, Congratulations! I’m really happy that you’re a NAF and wish you all the best as you narrow down your college search. That’s wonderful news.
What schools are those? I have seen NMf info but it is hard to find anything about naf.
Some schools that offer full rides and such to NMF also do so for NAF.
Most of the ones we looked at mentioned NAF and NMF and semi finalists on the same page. I would assume if a school has a National Merit deal they offer the same for national Achievement. Otherwise I think that would be grounds for discrimination.
I am sure some offer the same thing but colleges do not have to because the standard for NSF and naf are different. What bothers me is that they do not seem to go out of their way to publicize the info. Many colleges offer nothing special for NSF/naf, and if they want to attract those students they should specify that the offer applies to both sets of students.
Not NSF meant nmf

RDTsmith, I do not think it would be grounds for discrimination since a student can become BOTH National Achievement AND National Merit. It is not as if African-American students can only qualify for National Achievement. So there is no inherent discrimination. For those African-American students who qualify as National Merit Finalists, they have access to those scholarships.
I’m just talking for experience and what I’ve seen. All the schools we’ve looked at offer both, so I assumed that was the standard. Maybe I shouldn’t have assumed.
My son found out from school that he is NAF. The principal supposedly just received the information, even though the national office said it was mailed on the 16th. We still haven’t received anything at home, and it was mailed on the 23rd. Hard to believe that. Now for the next phase of not knowing how they trim 1300 down to 800…good luck to all.
My DD got rejected as NM Finalist. Probably because of a few Cs. UW GPA 3.59, W GPA 3.915.
PSAT 224, SAT 2300. But we got the letter that she is a NA Finalist. Was just looking to see what other NAFs are doing with this scholarship. Wishing all of you (semifinalists too) the best and congrats.
FYI:
Based on phone call to NMSC, letters were mailed out yesterday to NMSF students. Schools (principals and GC offices) received lists last week. My D’s school has not contacted anyone yet. GC is the least helpful player so far in her college applications experience, but school is happy to take credit for “elite” or selective school admissions.
