I’m seeing GPA’s over a 4.0 on a 5.0 scale get denied from UF. But I’ve also seen people with something around a 3.3 get accepted in like 2012/2013 but their standards have changed since then. I have about a 3.4 which I know is much lower than the averages listed on their website. Has anyone been accepted from 2016 through now with a gpa similar to mine? I’m applying to their communications school.
At the time I applied my GPA was around a 3.4 UW, BUT I believe what got me in was not based off academics. If UF wasn’t so hollistic (and if I wasn’t instate) in admissions I’m sure I would have been rejected. Through put high school I have taken 8 courses at a local techincal college that received no weighted adjustment because of my school’s policy. My SAT score was a 1360 as well.
My hooks included being a first generation student, being displaced by Hurricane Irma, working two jobs to support my family, and achieving despite multiple medical fallbacks. My essay was a piece on what it was like to lose my vision and adjust to a new life as a visually impaired person.
My ECs were great too. I was in Student Council all years, with leadership positions leading up to president. I founded and presided over a music initiative at my school. I also won regional medals at the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards and particiated in nationals.
So in conclusion, UF will accept people with lower GPAs! But only if they see other factors that show you could contribute to the campus and still keep up with the academic rigor.
Thank you!
