Low GPA stories or success in admissions as a freshman?

I'm curious to know if anyone has heard any stories of individuals pleading for admission and getting into UF with a lower than usual GPA (Ballpark 3.1?).

I (as can be assumed) have a very personal interest in this and would love to hear how I can make my own chances that much better. I have a very unique story in the chances board, but I thought I would ask here since there would be a much easier access to interest along the UF board.

if you're curious about my chances thread, it's here: <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/900466-uf-chances-low-gpa-good-story.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/900466-uf-chances-low-gpa-good-story.html</a></p>

But this thread is for stories of success with UF in individuals who had a lower GPA in highschool!

I got into UF Fall and here are my stats:

Gender: Male
Ethnicity: White
GPA: 3.01/3.76
ACT: 29 (English 24, Math 28, Reading 31, Science 32, Writing 8)
Schedule Type: IB Diploma Program
EC: Leadership in BrainBowl, National Honor Society, Model UN, and PeaceJam. Leader of school productions. Student Representative to a county committee. Political activism.

I had an amazing essay and that is one place you can shine. If you are really worried about it, apply to Summer B. Summer is easier to get into then Fall but there are fewer spots.

Best of luck :)
