How was it? Would you recommend it?
Not sure if you this counts but my son leaves for France for a engineering study abroad then goes right to Israel for an engineering internship. Will let you know at the end of the summer how it went but he is excited to go.
Both of my kids did study abroad programs that included an internship component. It helped with language skills, for sure. One kid felt more utilized than the other but the one that did had a more physical, non-office internship which made that easier.
@doschicos how was it in terms of school- internship balance. what were the hours of their internship?
I don’t remember the exact details of the internship schedule but I think it was twice a week - for one kid 4-6 hours, for the other most of the day.
Does the school provide housing for those who are doing an internship abroad over the summer?
There are many different types of internships. Sometimes the employer will provide housing. My son is doing an international internship and the group that set it up is providing housing /food stipend.
My kid did internship while studied abroad in Sydney. I got her the internship through a friend. I think she worked 10-15 hours a week. She gained good experience and it was not too stressful. I paid for housing through study abroad. She was there to study, not for the internship.
@oldfort I was looking at a summer internship at Sydney as well. I’m kind of interested and might apply on the summer after junior year of college. Is the housing generally expensive there?
