DD’18 is looking at 2 schools that will be using the Coalition App exclusively for the next application cycle. DD’s GC is clueless. Was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Coalition App. DD’s school uses Naviance for recs and transcript submissions. GC struggles with the Common App platform, so we are more than a little worried about GC interfacing with the Coalition App platform.
Anyone have any insights, advice, observations about the Coalition App. ie does it interface easily with Naviance etc?
We’re in a similar situation, where D18 is looking at 5 schools that will use the Coalition App (Pitt, GaTech, FSU, UF,UofSC). I’ve been following the forums for these schools and I haven’t seen anything specific to issues with the Coalition App there. GaTech will be using it for the first time next year, but I’m pretty sure the other schools used it for the class of 2021.
My D used the Coalition App for UF last Fall. Nothing really difficult and she had no help from the GC. UF had a two step process, fill out the common Coalition App stuff and submit, then you get the UF part with more questions and the Essay prompts. There is an area for additional info in the second part that my D used to elaborate on an EC that had too small an answer field in the first part.
Our GC is zero help with this which is shock given our flagship school will only use Coalition for applications. The real issue is whether your school will send transcripts/scores, etc to coalition for the "secured locker " or not. At least that is what I was told.
Does anyone know if you can preview different sections of your application before submitting to check for errors? The common app offers a preview of a PDF in the same format Admissions counselors will see, but can’t seem to find that on the coalition
I used the Coalition App to apply to one school last year. As far as I remember there isn’t any pdf version of the application where you can view your full application. You basically just have to go through it and make sure you didn’t make any mistakes
@mom2022 There really isn’t a “submit” for the first part (I’m assuming that you mean the Profile section). You can update it as much as you want. When you start the school applications, it will pull in the school-specific sections. You can update them as often as you want until you submit the application.
First off: the Coalition App is NOT integrated with Naviance. So your kids should select the “applying directly to institution” option when applying to a Coalition App school. Naviance is promising Coalition integration for next year…but don’t hold your breath.
The Coalition App is actually pretty straightforward to use, for the most part. There is no PDF generated at the end, so you do need to go over each section carefully. If you search, you can easily find some video tutorials explaining how to navigate the Coaltion App.
The recommenders section on Coalition App is very clunky- asking the applicant to identify and send links to letter writers (who may not need them if they are tracked separately in Naviance.)
One bright spot: Coalition App has a “locker” where the applicant can store additional materials - so kids can upload things apart from what the Guidance Counselor uploads to Naviance.
