Whats up with all these allegations that Georgetown tried to cover up an anti-gay hate crime that happened on campus?

I'm a student at Georgetown and from what I've seen recently, it's pretty far from being covered up. It's been in all the student newspapers, there was an e-mail sent out about it by the V.P. of Student Affairs, and it's been all over the local news. The incident took place on 9/9 but the student wasn't arrested until 9/27, which is why it hadn't been reported until recently. There was no "cover-up".

Personally, I plan on waiting until a jury decides whether the guy was guilty or not. This could end like the Duke lacrosse case did. I think it's best not to speculate.

I did find it strange that there was no press at the time of the crime. What if the guy was never caught- would they have never reported it in the Hoya? The victim spent the night in the hospital, so I think it's clear that there was a serious crime committed. While it's true that hate crimes occur, I don't think it should be a major concern for LGBT prospective students as the community is generally very strong.
